Mixed emotions for
kindergarten students;
On Tuesday morning the big yellow
school buses came rolling along to pick up
the pupils. Noticeable among them were
the neW beginners some sad, some happy
all brushed and combed with shining faces
to get going some place. We wish them all
luck from beginners to grade 13.
New beginners from our area were
Crystal Wilkens and Brian Mensinga to
Lucknow and Dennis ',libbers to Christian
Reformed.
Mrs. Wesley Tiffin and Mrs. Cassie
Mowbray -were Tuesday callers on Mr. and
Mrs. Victor Emerson. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Donald MacDonald of
Nashville, Tennessee and Mrs. Jennie
Porteous of Lucknow were Wednesday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Victor Emer- ,
son.
Mrs. Isobel Tiffin returned home on
Sept. 3 to Lucknow after -spending a few
days with Mrs. Wesley Tiffin.
M. and Mrs.. Bill Ross of Lucknow were
Saturday callers on Mr. and Mrs. Victor
Emerson.
The Education and .Cultural Activities
meeting will be held Sept. 17 at 6:30 in
Whitechurch 'Community Memorial hall.
Convener will be Miss Merle Wilson, the
hostess is' Mrs. Dave Gibb, rollcall will be
quotations and the motto - "Happiness is
just a love of life" is from Miss Merle
Wilson. Entertainmeqt will be slides and
music, there will be an interview with our
English guests and one minute convener
reports will be given. Members and their
families are invited to the pot luck supper'
at 6:30.

On Sept. 8 Ernest Beecroft attended the _
Threshers Reunion at Blyth and reported a
large crowd in attendance with something
foroverybody.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ducharme of Goderich

Bluevale visited Sept. 6 with Mr. and Mrs.
Carl McClinaghun.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Thomson of Dickiens Hill who on Saturday
evening celebrated their 25th wedding an-
niversary at the complex in Lucknow. At-
tending' the dance from here were Mr. and '
Mrs. Carl McClinaghun.
' Mr. and Mrs. Mark Cardiff of Brussels
visited Sept. & with Mrs. Norman Rintoul.
On Friday Mrs. Agnes Farrier and Mrs.
Norma Rintoul attended the Blyth
Threshers Reunion:

Steven, Scott and Stewart attended the
'EhreShers Reunion.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gaunt, Jennifer
and Graerne of Chatham recently visited
with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Purdon.
Mrs.. Ed. Carey of Kitchener visited on
the weekend with her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Purdon.
Trees theme of Unit One meeting
Unitl
Unit 1 of the LticknoW U.C.W met at the
Sepoy Apartments on September 3.
President Mrs. Ross Shiells opened the
meeting with the call to worship. The
rollcall, a Bible verse naming a tree, was
-answered by 13 members and two 'guests.
Freda Buttonconducted the worship and
Opened with the hymn "Take Time to be
Holy. Mrs. Al Irwin read the scripture,
gave the meditation, explaining that we,
like a tree, need proper care and nourish -
'limit to become responsible, Christians,
and led in prayer. Edna Mconald intro-
duced the theme, trees of the Bible. She
spoke of ,growing conditions in "the Holy
Land and of the removal of trees to make
way for apiculture. Mary Black gave some
interesting facts about the oak, cedar,
pine, fig, palm, sycamore, and olive trees
with Scripture references concerning them.
She concluded with the poem,' `Trees".
• Freda Button read the poem -"Salute to
Trees" and two musical numbers were en-
joyed. Mary Loth gave a contest and
Freda Button closed with the benediction.
Mrs. Shiells presided for the business.
, The, general meeting will be held on
September 10. Orders for the historical
book were taken and committee/ reports
were given. Mrs. Shiells gave the thought
for the day concerning the tree of life and
we closed with the Mizpah benediction'.
Lunch and a social time was, enjoyed.
Unit two studies stewardship
Unit 2 met at the home of Mrs. Eldon
Bradley on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. with steward-
ship being the theme. Mrs. Walden opened
with a poem "Taken Time": Fifteen
members answered the roll call "What
stewardship means to me".
Mrs. Lawrence MacLeod chaired the
meeting and she opened with a steward-
ship poem. We sang the hymn, "We give
the hymn, "We give Thee but Thine own",
with Mrs. Harvey Houston at, the piano.
Mrs. Ross Henderson read the Scripture
and Mrs. MacLeod gave an inspiring
meditation on this parable. The prime re-
quisite in being a good steward is the
faithfulnesS in the use of our talents and
possessions. She closed the meditation
with prayer.
Mrs. Grace Campbell gave a reading
"Give your best." Mrs, Macleod gave an
interesting chapter on stewardship from
the book "This United Church of.Our."
Mrs. Ross Henderson gave a reading "Lit-
tle Blessings," folloWed by.a Bible Quiz by
Mrs. Macleod: She closed this part of the
program with a poem "Give".
Mrs, Waldeq presided for the business
and she thanked the committee for the in-
teresting prOgramthey had and also the
hostess. The minutes. were read and ap-
proved. The offering was taken and
dedicated Five birthdays in August and
September added to our birthday fund:
The treasurer's report was given and
Mrs. Walden read a letter of thanks from
Mrs: Greta Johnston for the gift we had
given her when she Moved to Guelph.
Following the announcements, the
meeting was closed with the benediction
and the Grace was sung. A social dine was
'enjoyed as the ommittee served
refreshments. The hostess had a birthdar
cake to honor those with birthdays in.
August and September.
