area bowlers. Valerie, with her daughter Shani who will be responsible for operating the
bowling centre, said she's receiving calls from enthusiastic bowlers even now, before the
Sept. 13 reopening date.

BUSINESS
An extensively, renovated building
will greet Lucknow. and area bowlers
when Lucky Wood Lanes reopens for
business on Sept. 13.
Valerie Webb, who owns the .bowling
centre with her husband Ernie through
Ernie A. Webb Recreational Enter -
prizes Ltd:, said several projects were
undertaken and they improve the cen-
tre's atmosphere.
A drop ceiling has been installed, as
has new lighting. The lanes have been
resurfaced, i.ew carpeting has been
layed throughout and the ductwork for
the heating system has been dropped
from the attic to just above the new
ceiling. Where there haven't been
renovations, a cleanup has been done.
The business will be owner operated
as well, something the Listowel woman
obviously feels will provide good ser-
vice to the business's patrons.
The couple's daughter, Shani, will be
supervising the goings on in the
building. The young . woman has been
involved in the business in some,capaci-
ty or another for about 12 years at. the
Listowel bowling centre the recrea-
tional company owns.
"Even when she wasn't tall enough to
run the machines, she could tell you
how to do it," said Valerie. She's been
running the pin resetting machines now
for about eight years.
Shani . also has an Ontario youth
championship under her belt. Through
the Youth Bowling Council, an
organization Valerie is very en-
thusiastic about, Shani won her cham-
pionship. •
"It's a super organization for kids.
Whereas with hockey you have to put a
lot of moneyout on equipment, with
bowling you payfor shoes andthe
games."
The bowling centre plans to set up a
league foryoung bowlers. "If anyone is
interested in working with.YBC, we'll
readily accept any'help,". said Valerie.
And of course there are the other.
leagues. The senior citizen .league will
bestarting on Sept. 26 and the Kinloss
league has also booked time.
"The men normally bowled Tuesday
night, the Lucknow Dungannon league
bowled Wednesday and Thursday and
the two ladies' leagues bowled Monday.
We still have times available for
leagues."
There are also plans to encourage a
ladies' afternoon league, if there is suf-
ficient interest.
Other plans include holding a bowling
clinic sone time this fall to help people
with the. fundamentals of the game.
"Ernie just got his level two (a profi-
ciency
level) so now he can teach peo-
ple bowling,'' explained Valerie.
They shouldn't have any trouble
fulfilling their goals., People have been
dropping around after seeing the work
being done on the building and phone
• calls have started coming;in requesting
information. Anyone needing informa-
tion about leagues is asked to call the
Webbs . at their business number, 291-
2100 or their home number, 291-107.
Both are Listowel phone numbers.
The family is.committed to providing:
a recreational service to the village and
is equally committed to the sport. In
fact, they just purchased their third
bowling property, this one in Mount
Forest. After a long year without the
sport in Lucknow, bowling fans Will pro-
bably be lining up at the door on the
Sept.. 13 re -opening night.
