Wing]h am 'defeats Squirts
The Lucknow Squirt Softball team com-
peted in the Goderich tournament on Sat-
urday, July • 27. Their first game was
against the host town, Goderich, with.
L eitIlOw defeating Goderich 10 to 7.
Lucknow took an early lead scoring
seven ° runs. in the first two. innings. After
Goderich scored five runs in the fourth and
fifth innings, the Lucknow team came alive
and held their ground, winning the game.
' Lucknow player Adrian Rar was hit in
the jaw by a bad pitch during. this game
and was taken to Goderich hospital. ' But
after being released with no serious injur-
ies, Adrian came back to play the final
game against Wingham.
Liiclmow's second game was against
• Port Elgin with Lucknow the victor by a
score of 12 - 9: ' This was not one of
Lucknow's best efforts but thanks to strong
. pitching. by Chris Stevenson and some
errors by the Port Elgin team, Lucknow
earned the win. '
The two wins put I4idmow into the A
playoff game against Wingham. The Wing-'
ham squirts have a good solid team and the
Lucknow boys knew they had . to be keen.
This was the best game of the day with
both teams making some, good plays. After
Six innings the score was Wingham 3,
I4.icknow 1. •
At the top of the seventh inning,
Lucknow scored two runs to tie the game,
leaving three outs away from an extra
inning. The first W uigham batter hit a fly.
to left field, getting a triple. The second
Wingham batter hit .a fly . to centre field
where it was caught, • but the Wingham
player made it . home, defeating the
Lucknow boys 4 - 3.
But, all was not lost as Chris Stevenson
received the award for the most valuable
pitcher of the tournament, striking out 25
batters during the day.
The Lucknow Squirt boys softball team
has had a very successful season playing 16
games in their regular W OAA schedule,
winning 10, tying 2 and losing 4.
• The Lucknow Squirts are also entered in
the Ontario Softball Association. Lucknow
has put out Teeswater in two (games
straight and now advance against Cones-
toga in . the next round of playoffs: , b.
Lucknow's next home game `will be on
Wednesday, August'7 at 7 p.m. The boys
and coaches wouldappreciate all the
support they can get for this playoff game.

Milvert Reid is a patient in Goderich
Hospital and his wife .Gladys Reid is in
University Hospital, London. We wish
them improved health. Ruby and Charles
McDonald, Evelyn and Peter Cook visited
them on the way home from a weekend

Doris and Bill Humphrey enjoyed a
holiday in the United States this past week.
Ruby and. Charlie McDonald, Doris and
Bill Humphrey and Evelyn and Peter Cook
visited July 19 and 20 with Lorna and Gerry
• Hudson and Brenda Clipperton in Lon-
don. While there, 'they were privileged to
attend the promotion of Walter Holmes . to
Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Canadian
Regiment. He is married to Lynda Clipper-
ton and they have four children. They have
just returned from two years in. Germany.
Walter has had several postings in differ=
entcountries since he joined the service in
1967. In the near future Norway will be
among the places he will be on duty. He is.
only 38 years 'old and we congratulate him
on his achievements so far and hope for
him a bright and satisfying future in his
chosen. profession.
Arts Council compil
The Grey Bruce Arts Council is eompil-.
ing a cultural . directory of Grey and Bruce
Counties. The directory will cover all areas
of the arts. (ie. visual arts and crafts, music,
dance, theatre and literature). It will
include individuals, groups, retail outlets,
teachers of the arts, services, and facilities
related to the arts.. There are no restric-
tions concerning amateur or professional
status., and anyone who is involved in the
arts may be included. There 'is no charge
for being listed in the cultural directory,
Two summer students have seen hired
through a Challenge '85 S.E.E..D. grant to
research and compile the directory. Sandra
Jones (3rd year music, at the University of
Toronto). end Janice Rankin (2nd year
Consumer Studies at the University of
Guelph) have been working on this project
since May 21. The "directory is scheduled
for completion by September.

people all over Grey and Bruce in order to
gather the necessary informatio i Anyone

Beatrice Parker and Allan Houghton of
Burlington took place in Trinity Chapel of
Wellington Square United Church, Bur-
lington. Margot Parker was her sisters
attendant. Dennis Houghton of Texas was
his father's best man. s. ;
The bride's godson, Douglas Towne of
St. Thornas gave the bride away..
Allan's other son, Ted of Whitby and
grandson Craig, ushered the guests.
A reception was held at the home ofthe
bride. Guests came from Lucknow, - St.
Thomas, London, .Texas, . Toronto, Missis-
sauga and Orono.
Mr. and Mrs. Houghton are residing in
Burlington.

soloist at the Datema - Siemon wedding in
Blyth on Saturday, July 27.
