He said he doesn't expect the operating costs of a new arena to be above the costs absorbed by the four municipalities for the present arena. He says he expects the arena to be built to the arena board's satisfaction before it is taken over by the municipalities. "We're riot going to take it over with $100,000 against it," he said. Because the project is still in its infancy, Murray said he doesn't have any concerns directed at the project as it now stands. As of yet, no one has come to the arena board with any complaints against the proposed construction of a new arena. He said; however, that if people in the community have any questions regarding the project, a fact finding meeting can be set up at a later date. Cathy Todd, the member of the arena board from West Wawanosh -Township, supports the move for a new arena because it is "desperately" needed by. the com- munity. The biggest concern she has about the fund raising, venture is the enormous sum / of money required to build a new arena complex. "It's a big project for a small, com- munity. If you figure out the cost per person - It's a lot of dough. It (the fund raising) is a good incentive for people to think it's a worthwhile project. If it works as well as the Wingham hospital fund raising drive it should, go over well;" she said., Dave Eadie, the arena board represen- tative from Kinloss Township, is in favour • of the new arena complex. However, he would like to see a substantial .amount of money raised before the beginning of con- struction. He says that other towns who have built arenas have run into interest problems which built up because of a lack of initial funding. The Ontario and 'Federal governments won't include interest costs as part of the grant. "It's a big project, a bigger project than Lucknow and area has ever had. We have to tread fairly carefully. We, don't want to burden taxpayers with extra taxes. We've got to have financing in place before construction," he said. Grant Fairish,' Ashfield Township's arenaboard representative, commented that he was in favour of giving the lions. Club permission togo ahead with the funding of the arena project because a new arena will be needed in the future. He said he hopes the fund . raising campaign will be successful so that the arena can bebuilt all at once rather than having it built in stages over a longer period of time.
