The Lewis Centennial ended with an old time fiddlers contest on Sunday evening. The Ripley arena was jammed to the rafters as almost 2000 people came to see ladies and men, young and 'old, exhibit their talents. • Frank Scottdirected the contest which ran until long after midnight. • Willis .. m Hyde of Hensall was the oldest fiddler to take part. A few other prize win- , ners were Mrs. Chester Emmerton, Mrs. Leslie Wardell, Clyve Munro,- Jack Ken- nedy, and Glen Boyd. So ended a successful effort by Ripley and Huron Township residents to` welcome old boys and girls home to join in the celebra- tion of the arrival of Scottish settlers to the area 100 years before. The following anecdotes were a few of those printed in The Ripley. Express which carried a full account of the weekend ac- tivities in its August 13 edition.
