The reunion starts with a bang Thursday night (August 1) when Global's Wintario show will be televised live from the Ripley - Huron Complex. A variety show and the crowning. of the Miss Ripley, Reunion will take place before .Faye Dance and Greg Beresford go on the air at 9. The Wintario evening starts at 7. A scheduled 16 -team men's fastball tour- nament gets underway Thursday night at 7 and games will be played through Monday. at the Ripley and; Reid's Corners diamonds. Night One of the reunion is completed with the publicity night for the township's' latest • book -Families and Farms of Huronwith its hub- Ripley. The unveiling of this edition takes place at 10 at the Ripley District School. A foodbooth at the arena. will satisfy any late -evening hunger pains. Many of the returning township residents. will be on hand for Friday evening's registration session from 7-9 at the Huron Township hall in the village. Some good old toe tapping and hand clapping will be going on in the township shed at the. Fiddlers' Jamboree, whch starts at 7:30. There. will be a refreshment garden in the arena, and two dances for adults and teens, both star- ting at 9. The Chaperals will play for the adults while Rock 1000 Videos will•entertain the. teens. The first of three cash draws over the weekend will be made at 11:00 and food booths will be situated at the ball diamond and inside the arena. - Registration continues Saturday morning at 9 in the Township hall, as does a "Back to "School" reunion at Ripley District School. This event Will .reunite teachers and students of the former public school sections • as:well as the Ripley Public School and the Ripley High School. A'children's program will •be available inside the Ripley District School library from 9 to noon. • A lunch will be held inside the Legion Hall - from 11-2 and the food booths will continue to operate front the arena and ball:diamond. One of the largest events. -of the weekend - Live draw in Ripley complex when doors open at 6:30 pm -get your ticket soon Every Thursday night on Global TV, Faye 'Dance and Greg Beresford's face appear on televisions across Ontario, giving us the numbers that will give someone sudden wealth. The Dance -Beresford duo will open the "Ripley's, Alive in '85" reunion in grand style on Thurs., Aug. 1. when Wintario comes to Huron Township. The Ripley -Huron Complex_ will be the site for the Aug. 1 edition oithe Wintario draw. Bob Harris, one of the organizers fon;' the Ripley -Huron . Township reunion; • said a • committee has been working for 18 months to, bring the television program to the village. • "It Iwas confirmed about six weeks (two months before the reunion) ago," Mr. Har- ris said in a recent interview. Gave berth From The Ripley Express' Operator a Bad Speller An Edna, Saskatchewan man is wonder- ing why his wife telegraphed` her con- gratulations and best wishes in response to a telegram of his. He' had engaged a berth ahead of time and was comfortably fixed. At one of the stations an aged woman board- ed the cars, but the berths were; all taken. The Edna man's chivalry came to her rescue, and he gave theold lady his berth, while he sat up all night in the smoking, conn- partment. The next morning he sent his wife a telegram, • which when it reached her readas follows: "Gave birth to an old ,woman last night. Am all in." The Ripley Fall Fair and reunion committee have worked together to build a portable stage for the evening, and some ad- ditional footage will have to be added to form a 40 X 60 -foot stage for the television. equipment and personalities. . One thousaiid tickets have been printed for Wintario night and the Complex doors will open at 6:30. Gary Courtney will be the master of ceremonies for the variety show which starts at 7 and will feature breakdan- ting; and _music and singing from .the Lighthouse Swing Band. - Following the variety show, thecrowning of. the Miss 'Ripley 1' "inion queen will take place. Eleven girls from Huron Township are participating in the event and . Miss Ripley Reunion will benamed shortly after 8. 'The Wintario people will make some draws before going•liye on the air at 9. Some of the audierype located behind the live program will be able to watch the pro- gram on cameras which will be on the stage. Ticket -buyers will receive a Wintario ticket and tickets Will be sold at the Complex ,the night of the draws. Chances are one of the 1,000 seated in the audience Thursday night will go home a 'winner, courtesy of Ms. Dance and Mr. Beresford. "One of the officials said there have been a.rnumber of times they's had a winner in the audience," said Mr. Harris. Live television- it's an added bonus for organizers as Ripley's Alive in '85 officially starts. • / • starts at 12:30 when a mammoth parade will make its way through Ripley. The official opening ceremonies will start after the parade (2:00) followed by a band perfor- mance from 2:30-4 and, .a// refreshment garden in the arena from 2 to 7:30. The Ripley and District Lion's Club is preparing beef -on -a -bun from 2-7. At 6:30, tWo oldtimers' ball games will take place on the village sandlot. The evening ends with dancing to the Modernaires at the arena for the adults and Crippled Duck supplying the music for a teen dance. Both dances start at 9 and the second cash draw will be made in the arena at 11. A church service ,followed bylunch will take place. at Ripley/District School Sunday morning at 11 andregistration will continue in the township hall at 1. The ever -popular bed races get underway at 1:30 and the Ripley Junior Farmers . are sponsoring a band concert in the arena at 2:30. The Bruce. CountyShriners are hosting a fish fry at the arena from 4 to 8 with another cash draw taking place at 6. Reunion_ par- ticipants are urged •to bring their lawn chairs to the "Time of Our Lives",pageant; • If which starts at 8. between the township hall and the Presbyterian Church. The evening wraps up in busy fashion with the 11:00 Shirt Tail parade through Ripley and a street dance at 12:05 ,.a.m. featuring the Siddon Brothers. Lunch will be served inside the Legion Hall from 11-2 Monday and the tugof war at 1,.will pit" concessions, clans and other groups against each other. A bluegrass con- cert will keep everyone stepping lively from 2-5 at the arenaand the men will discover how successful they were at grooming their. beards when the beard growing contest takes place at 3 at the arena. There will be a refreshment garden at the arena from 2=6:30 ad the Point Clark District Kinsmen Club are hosting a chicken dinner at the arena from 2-6. The five-day schedule will draw to a close Monday evening with dancing -to the Classics at the arena, a draw fora trip at 11 and the farewell and end of another reunion at midnight. . Ripley's Alive in '85 and the remaining:" and returning 'residents will have their hands full moving to as many events as they can on this Civic holiday weekend. ' IT WOULD BE difficult do believe anyone who attended the 1975 Ripley -Huron Township reunion forgoth the events and enjoyment which took place over a four- day stretch. The reunion has been extend- ed to five days, in 1985 with a variety of events designed to please everyone.
