There are many activities planned for the.
Huron Township -Ripley Reunion to allow
people to sit back and enjoy the pro-
ceedings. There is also a large agenda of
events, however, which will satisfy the
needs of those who just can't standstill.
Reunion sports chairman Larry Irwin and
his crew of volunteers have scheduled ac-
, tivities to keep people of all ages active dur-
ing the Ripley'.s Alive in `85weekend. While
admission fees are involved in most of the
sporting -type events, Mr. Irwin said making
a profit is thefurthest thing from the
organizers' minds. •
"Our idea is to provide something to in- •
terest everybody," said Mr. Irwin.
The participation events get underway
Thursday night (Aug. 1) with the start of a
scheduled 16 -team men's fastball tourna-
ment at the Ripley and Reid's Corners
diamonds. Teams from Tiverton; Goderich,
Chepstow andBluevale are entered, and the,
Ripley. Intermediates from the Western On-
tario Industrial Fastball League will betry-
ing to keep the top prizes"in the village.
The tournament runsThursday night, Fri-
day night, ,Saturday and Sunday, with ,the

championship games slated to go Monday
afternoon. Mr. Irwin said approximately
$1,200 in prize money will be handed out as
the village hosts its first men's fastball tour-
nament in four years. Awards will also be
presented to the tournament's Most
Valuable. Player and Best Pitcher. Hugh
Mason is convenor for the tournament.
The ball action will continue Saturday
night with two "oldtimers" games at the
Ripley diamond. Jack Farrell and Sally
Harrison are arranging a women's game at
6:30 that evening, featuring some of the best
softball players from years gone by.. The
men's contest at 8 will see the renewal of the
Bervie-Ripley rivalry of the 1950's. Don
McLay and Aurel Armstrong are getting the
fellows together for a few more innings.
Boys and girls will 'have a chance to show
their athletic ability Saturday afternoon
after the parade with a basketball free
throw competition at the ball park. Ripley
District School has enjoyed much success in,
the Knights of Columbus Free Throw con-
test during the past two school years and
this 'event' should show off some of the
township's best foul shooters.
There will, also be a dunking machine set
up in the ball park area Saturday afternoon.'
Murray Yungblut is looking after this
always -popular activity and Mr. Irwinis
hoping some area celebrjties will take their
turn on the dunking stool.
Young and old alike will be able, to test
their best fastballs as a speed gun Will -be set,
up atthe tennis courts. Don Dawson of the
"Kincardine Ontario Provincial Police
detachment will, have the "radar grin" on
hand to -test everyone's top throw.
A small midway, featuring rides for the
younger children' will . be located near the
ball park Saturday afternoon.
One of the more popular rural recrea-
tional pastimes, horseshoe pitching will be
played behind the tennis courts on Saturday
afternoon starting at around 2. Convenor
Jim France is hoping for 64 entries and
doubles partners will be drawn out of a hat..
This pitching event is designed for the older
crowd, said Mr. Irwin.
Sunday's main sporting highlight is the'
bed races, which start at 1:30 in front' of the
Anglican Church at the corner of Ross and
Jessie Streets. Prizes will be awarded to the',
fastest bed racers in open and mixed
classes..' The finish line is at the corner of
Huron and Queen Streets and Ron and
Marilyn Freer are organizing the fun.activi-
ty.
Barb Grubb is organizing a table tennis
tournament for eight to 14 -year-olds Sunday
afternoon at the Ripley -Huron Central
Public School at the west end of the village.
The tournament starts at 1 and boys and
girls will be divided into four classes.
The tests of strength take place Monday
morning, starting at 11 at the ball park when
the township's tuggers of war get together.
:Wilt Gamble has been promoting residents
on the Huron Townshipi/concessions to enter
teams of eight men plus an alternate. .Mr.
Irwin expects „ clans and area municipal
councils to also get in on the fun. - The tug of
war should prove to be one of the more.
popular spectator sports . during the
weekend.
Amidst the dances, .parades,shows and
lunches during the Reunion, there will be a
full agenda of events, encouraging participa-
tion from boys and girls, men and women:
