Mary Porter beloved wife of Albert Porter
of Lucknow passed away in the Wingharn.
and District Hospital on Thursday, .June 13,
1985 in her 65th year.
She was born in Howick Township on .June
29, 1920. Her parents were William King and
Verna Merkley. She -married Albert Porter
on June 18, 1938.
Mrs. Porter is survived by husband Albert
of Lucknow, two sons, Glenn and his wife
Marianna, Doug and wife, Pat 'of Lucknow,
one daughter, Marlene and husband Alex
Verbeek of Clinton and eight grandchildren.
She. is also survived by her mother, Mrs..
Verna Elliott of Wingham, two brothers,
Jack and Harold of Wingham , and two
sisters, Irene,, Mrs. Fred Ohm, of Wingham
and Edna Forbeck of Niagara Falls.
She was predeceased by her father,
William King, in 1962.
The funeral service was held on June 16,
1985 at 2 p.rn. at the MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral Home in Lucknow with Rev. War-
ren McDougall officiating and Revd, Doug
Madge assisting.
Two grandchildren, Michelle "and Julie
Verbeek gave readings during the service.
Honorary Pallbearers were Al Martin,
Doug Day, Mary Hymers, Janet Tucker,
Hugh MacDonald, Bill Siefried and pick,

Luanne Doherty on • the birth of their
daughter, Laura Clare Elizabeth born on
Friday, June 21.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simpson have been
visiting with their daughter and son-in-law
_. Gary and Jan. Kaye and family of Milford
Bay.
On Sunday, June 23, St. Joseph's
Kingsbridge Parish held their annual picnic
at the .Resurrection Camp. Everyone en-
joyed, the afternoon of games and. pot luck
supper.
Catherine Carney and Agnus MacGregor
of Niagara Falls were visiting with their
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simpson and
Mr. and Mrs. Dpnald Simpson on Monday,
June 17.
The Kintail Flyer§ held their annual pic-
nic at the home of Alex and Cindy Simpson
on June 23. Everyone enjoyed a fun time.

UCWmeet
The monthly meeting of Pine River
U.C.W. met on Tuesday evening, June 11
at the home of Norma Humphrey of Point
Clark. There were 20 ladies present.
The meeting opened with the president
Ruth Farrell giving a reading: The roll call
was to tell what part of the Purpose
impresses the members most.
The meeting was turned over to the
conveners, Pat Lowry and Audrey Fergus-
on. After repeating the Purpose, the ladies
were divided into groups to discuss the
meetings held in 1975 and 1984 to discuss
the value of or something lacking in those
meetings. •
The ladies were asked to name their
favourite nursery rhyme. Pat Ivwry and
Audrey Ferguson enacted the story of
Humpty Dumpty and the King which was
much enjoyed. Groups were formed to
answer questions on Humpty Dumpty. The
23rd Psalm was repeated in unison.
Ruth . Farrell presided for the business
portion of the meeting. Norma Humphrey
read the minutes of the last meeting. Ruth
Farrell led in prayer and the benediction
followed by the singing of the Grace. Lunch
was served by the conveners, Anne Boyd,
Marg Reid and Rovi Elms and a social'hour
was spent following the meeting.

and nephews, David Ohm, Jackie Ohm, Bill
Ohm; Michael King and Bradley King.
Seven grandchildren acted as
flowerbearers.
Interment . 'followed at Greenhill

A. Lorne Luther
A. Lorne Luther of R.R,, 3 Lucknow died
on. Sunday June.16 at University Hospital in.
London. He was in his 69th year.
He was born in Howard Township, son of
the late Martin Luther and the former
Florence M. Smith.
Mr. Luther was a veteran ,of World War
II; a member of the Lucknow Legion; a
member of the National and Provincial
Farmers' Union and a, member of Ashfield
Presbyterian Church, Ripley. He moved to
his farm at R.R. 3 Lucknow from the
Ridgetown area in 1955.
Surviving is his wife, the former Maxine
Parney; two sisters, Mrs. Homer ( Peggy)
Wooten of Highgate and Mrs. Gib (Jean)
Collins of Ridgetown and one brother Robert
Luther of Ridgetown.
He is predeceased by one, sister, Mrs.
Fern Campbell.
Funeral services were conducted Wednes-
day, June 19 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Hugh
Nugent of Ashfield Presbyterian Church of-
ficiating.
Pallbearers were nephews Jack Collins,
Bill Parney, Gary Brien, Bev Taylor, Ray
Fenton' and John Garton.
Interment at Greenwood

Pallbearers were Elmer Culbert, Donald
Farrish, Donald Brooks, Donald Savage,
Allan Teeft and Paul Fisher. The
flowerbearers were Vaughan Kane and
Dale Farrish.

Gerald James Elmer Culbert
Gerald James Elmer Culbereef Country
Road Lodge died on June 12, 1985 at Victoria
Hospital in London. He was 62.
'Born on October 4, 1922 in Ashfield
Township, he was the son of the late James
Culbert and the late Annie Fitzgerald. He
married the late Lillian Archer in Toronto in
April of 1954..
He was educated at Lucknow Public and
high schools and attended -Stratford Nor-
mal School. He taught at SS no. 11 Huron
Township and later joined the Royal Cana-
dian Air Force. He attended the University
of Toronto after his discharge from the air
force and received his degree in mechanical
engineering. He was employed for several
years by Honeywell in Toronto. He has
resided at Country Road Lodge in Ashfield
for the last two years.
Mr. Culbert was predeceased by his
mother in 1973, his father in 1976 and his wife
in 1983.
Mr. Culbert is survived by his sisters,
Mrs. Beatrice Will of Brantford, Mrs. Jean
Teeft of Dunnville and Mrs. Shirley, Brooks
of Lucknow. He is also survived by his
children Carol and Denise Culbert of RR 3
Uxbridge.
The funeral service was held at the

Thomas Herbert Culbert
Thomas Herbert Culbert, a former resi-
dent of Ashfield Township, died in Meadow
Lake, Saskatchewan in May of 1985. He was
in his 104th year.
Mr. Culbert was born in Ashfield
Township on August 29,1881 to the late
James Culbert and the late Margaret
Dreaney. He went to western Canada in 1901
and resided in Saskatchewan for most of his
life.
He is predeceased by his wife Corina
Rivard whd died on May 26, 1969. He is also
predeceased by two daughters, two
brothers, Andrew and James of Lucknow,
three sisters, Letitia Reed and Barbara
McLennan of Vancouver and Mary Grant of
Saskatchewan.
He is ' survived by three sons,seven
daughters, 32 grandchildren, 57 great
grandchildren and 12 great great grand-
children.
His last visit to this area was at the age of
99. He has nieces, nephews . and . several
cousins from the Lucknow`-Dungannon area.
