Band travels.
to Simcoe
By Helen Maelntyre
A11-91 .members of the Lucknow Band
boarded the buses at the Lucknow School to
begin their annual band tour. This year, we
travelled back to the Simcoe area.
Tuesday was the busiest day for concerts
as we performed three. It was a great start
for our tour: as we were welcomed by en-
thusiastic 'audiences at Park Manor. Senior
Public School.
. The second concert was performed at St.
Jacob's Public School. Here, our Greatest
American Hero, Gord Bailey, realized why
suspenders were invented, as he had trouble
• holding up his costtune. Later in the week,
Chris Clark, Bruce Elliott and Jonathon
Stein ran into the same problem. •
The final performance of the day was at
Cedarbrae Public School in Waterloo. After
this last, concert, the band members were
starting to feel like celebrities because of
the standing ovations received at all three
schools.
We arrived at the Minden Manor Motel in
Simcoe that night and had supper at
McDonalds.
The
The evenings at the motel were spent
building muscles, jogging, steaming, swim-
ming, sweating, rallying and breaking
teeth.
On Wednesday, two concerts were played.
The first one was in Simcoe at North Public
School. Our record for standing ovations
continued when we performed at Delhi
Public School.
Part of Wednesday was spent shopping for
the necessities of any trip like junk food,
water guns and cowboy hats.
Unfortunately, the band members who
• purchased water guns didn't realize that,one
of Mr. Cayley.'s hobbies is collecting these
weapons.
Wednesday was not the day for "girls who
just want to have fun," as four of our girls
took sick and one was injured.
Thursday, we toured to the home of
Wayne Gretzky in Brantford.
Concerts were played at Woodman Drive
• School and Cedarland Public School.
While in Brantford, the band invaded one
of the shopping malls. After this shopping
spree there were a lot more peoplewhe have
heard of Lucknow. Once our money was
spent and our cowbOys ( Chris Irwin, Lynn
Murray and Mike Murray) were able to pur-
chase their Lone Ranger look a like outfits,
' we returned to our home. base. That night
the band 'had a special birthday supper at
McDonalds, complete with a floor show.
All the May birthdays were celebrated.
• However, Melissa received a special gift
from Mr. Cayley in the form of a cake. Un-
fortunatly, because of a slip of the hand
( ? ! ) it didn't land on the table. This was
the floor show for the evening.
After a messy performance, the band
members became custodians. Fortunately,
we were welcOmed back the next morning
for our last breakfast of the tour.
• After breakfast, we left Simcoe 'and 'head-
ed for Woodstock. There, we played at
Oliver Stevens Senior- Public School. After
our last concert at Hillcrest Public School
we started our homeward journey.
The buses pulled into Lucknow after 5
p.in. to end the 1985 Band trip. The drivers
of the bus, Jack Stickland and Bob Stewart
did an excellent jOb of chauffering us
around. A big thank you goes out to them
and to Ms. Janice Reid our chaperone and
"nurse". Also a big thank you to Mr. Cayley
from the Lucknow Concert Band.
Pee Wee's opert
on winning note.
The Lucknow Pee Wee fastball team
started their 1985 season off with a 20 - 2
victory over Bervie in five innings.
Lucltnow pitchers, Kent Campbell and
Matt Rhody, allowed just two hits and
struck out nine.
Leading run scorers for the home side
with three each were Scott Gibson, Kent
Campbell and Brad Murray.
The first home game is on Tuesday, May
28 at 7 p.m. Come out and support the local
boys.
