WI members learn icing techniques
Whitechurch W.I. 'meeting was held
Wednesday, May 8 in the evening. The
convener of Family and Community
Affairs, Mrs. Tom Day was present as well
as 4-H leaders and members.
The president welcomed all and the
opening exercises were held. The roll rail,
was answered by How I handle personal
stress. Mrs. Currie gave a reading on fash-
ion resolutions. Plans were made for the
district annual meeting Tuesday, May 21.
Mrs. Helen Currie, Mrs. Russell McGuire,
Miss Merle Wilson and Mrs. Den Ross are
to attend.
There will be a standing committee
meeting on June 10 at Mrs. Dan Tiffin's to
plan ,the bus trip to Elmira, and to
Kitchener Farmer's Market on June 27.
Names and money are to be in by June 10
to Mrs. Dave Gibb or Mrs. Alan Falconer.
Mrs. Annie Conn gave an interesting '
motto on a' recipe for a happy home. Home
is the, abiding place of ones affection;
Home is where the heart is. She gave a
poem and a sing song was held with Mrs/
Don Ross playing the piano.
We would like to thank the 4-H leaders,
Mrs. Walter Elliott and Mrs. Archie
Purdon for their leadership with the girls
by helping them with their exhibits 'on
quilts and various types of quilting and the
4-H basic baking course.
Kim Laidlaw gave a report of the.
projects taken and events .attended. They
also took gardening and home beautifica-
tion. The club members are Karen Elliott,
Allison Wardrop, Kim Laidlaw, Cathy Dow
and Maryon Dow.
Mrs. Dan Tiffin demonstrated icings and
trimmings for wedding cakes. Jean : was
thanked by Mary Hehn. A penny auction
conducted by Mrs. Brenda Day and
assisted ,by 4-H girls was held. Plants and
baking were the popular items.
Everyone viewed 4-H girls exhibits and
lunch was served by Mrs. Gibb, Mrs. R.
Fisher and Agnes Farrier.

cancer society canvassers: Agnes Farrier,
-Jean Ross, J. Pickard, Norma Falconer,
Norma Rintoul, Gertie Durnin, Kendra
Pardon, Brenda Day, Lou Doyle, Kay
Cruikshanks, Eleanor Neill, Kay Forgie
and Barbara Marklevitz. The collection
amounted to $910.00. Thank you all.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson attended the
wedding of Lonnie Fisher, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Fisher in Guelph on Satur-
day.
• • On Sunday the Fisher family celebrated
their mother, Mrs. Rena Fisher's 75th
birthday at Bingeman Park, when they
were all together for the wedding.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Don
Steffin on the arrival on Sunday, May 12th
of a baby girl, 6 lbs. 5 oz., at Wingham
Hospital. She is a sister for Crystal.
On Saturday evening a reception for the
newlyweds, M' . r -Ir' Mrs. Murray Simp-
son, was held at Teeswater with music by
Tiffin's Orchestra. A large ,crowd attended
with many from Whitechurch.
Mrs. Gertrude Tiffin of Wingham was a
Sunday caller en Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tiffin
and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson.
The Lucknow Public School Concert
Band held their band concert in the
Lucknow Community Centre Friday even-
ing. In the band from here are Tim
Falconer; Kim Laidlaw and Mark Schnel-
ler. Many of the folks of the village
attended.
Mrs. Carol Bell of Tiverton was a
Tuesday caller ori Mr. and Mrs. )Victor
Emerson. Mrs. Bell had been away visiting
relatives for some time in the winter.
As Mrs. Lamb is leaving the community
toga to Nova Scotia, Mrs: Alan Falconer,
Mrs. Bevin Tiffin, Mrs. Belmore, .Mrs.
Cathie Lubbers took Mrs. Lamb out for
dinner on Wednesday evening.
To celebrate Mother's - Day, Mrs.
Milligan had Mr. and Mrs. Bill Glover of
Sarnia and Mrs. Steve Irwin and Cody of
Lucknow over for a visit.
Mrs. Hugh McMillan of Sarnia had Mrs.
Cassie Mowbray and Mrs. Wes. Tiffin
home with her for the weekend.
Mrs. G. Templeman, a Home Helper of
Wingham is assisting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Emerson..
On Saturday, evening Alan Falconer
celebrated his birthday with the help of
,Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer and Mr. and
Mrs. Kevin Falconer and Jackie. At work
in Goderich, the staff celebrated with him
on Friday.
On Friday, Mr. and Mrs. E. W .
Beecroft, Ronald/ Beecroft and Sharon
Worth were at Kitchener and visited with
Karen Beecroft.
On Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Archie
Hurtels celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Mrs. J. McTavish and her brother-in-
law, Joseph Guest of Walkerton and his
daughter Essie Bloomfield of Paisley
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald.
Mrs. Ivan Lloyd and Mrs. Pearl Loyd of
London visited on Thursday with Edna and
May Boyle.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Mel King of
Georgetown.
The Holyrood Women's Institute held
their Family and Consumer Affairs meet-
ing on Thursday evening at the home of the
president, Mrs. Charles ' Murray. Mrs.
Donald .Fisher (the former Elaine Murray)
of Walkerton was the guest speaker. She is
an employee of Cuneos, and her topic was
Home Decorating.
She explained how colour affects people
and took each room in a house and matched
up colours to suit the decor. This was an
interesting topic'. Also, .a °welcome back
home for Elaine. Mrs. Harold Smith
expressed thanks and presented her with a
gift. Mrs. John Scott and Mrs. Lorne Eadie
were each given a get well plant.
The quilt for Participation Lodge was
displayed. Mrs. Alex Percy was thanked
for the use of her home for the quilting and
to the members who turned out to quilt.
Mrs. Charles Murray presided and after
the opening, the minutes were read. The

5 or 10 cents. Mrs. Harold Smith gave the
,motto, "ABC's of Friendship" and also
conducted several contests and a game.
Readings were given by Mrs. Frank
Maulden and Mrs. Douglas McEvvan and a
piano number was given by Betty Anne
Murray. Mrs. Harold Smith and Mrs.
Douglas McEwan volunteered to attend the
district meeting on May 21.
Mrs. Charles Murray read a poem and
thanked all who had contributed to the
cancer society and the canvassers. Mrs.
Harold Smith gave the courtesies. 0
Canada was sung at tho close of, the
meeting. Refreshments and a social time
followed.
Mrs. Marretta Hodgins, returned home
on Friday after spending a while with Mrs.
A. Stam at Kincardine since coming out of
the hospital. Visitors with her over the
weekend ' were her grandson, Bevan
Hodgins of Windsor, Mrs. Elmer Stanley
of Huron Townshiop, Mrs. John Farrell
'and girls of concession 10 and Mrs. Bill
Burt of concession 14.

Mrs. John de Boer were Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Nicholson, pin, Ryan and Craig of

Mr. and Mrs. John de Boer had a call
from son Cecil de Boer last week with the
news a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil de. Boer at an Edmonton Hospital.
She is a little sister for her two brothers.

Don Hill and son • . Shawn, a former
resident of the area was a caller last week
on former neighbours. Don lives now at
Iron'Bridge, where hestill farms.. He has a
daughter married in Mllamay.

be held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Russ Murray of Acton
were Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gaunt, Graeme
and Jennifer of Chatham and Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Carey of Kitchener were weekend guest
