RNA Day on
May 13
May 13 has been proclaimed R.N.A. Day
in Ontario. The Ontario Association of
Registered Nursing Assistants urges all
RNAs to celebrate the day through displays
and exhibitions in recognition of the role of
the R.N.A. in health care.
The college of Nurses of ' Ontario
recognizes both categories of Nurses, the
Registered Nurse and the Registered Nurs-
ing Assistant, and it believes they
complement each other in the care of
patients.
A hospital stay can be a lonely and
confusing experience. That's why we -want -
to introduce ourselves. The Registered
Nursing - Assistants' principle duty is the
direct care of patients. Ours is a "hands.
on" specialty.
At present, a few of our health care
facilities have seen fit' to reduce their
compliments to RNAs, either by attrition,
layoff, or reducing their RNA title to a
lesser status.
/-The patients' primary need is for "hands
on" care at the bedside and this is the area
where the RNA is the specialist. We are
also taught many other skills through our
training, extra college courses and facility
in-service.
We are the health care workers who
wake you up in the morning. We feed you,
bath you, and make you as comfortable as
possible during a health crisis.,
If you are not well enough to daft alone,
we are trained to lift and turn you as
smoothly and carefully as possible. If you
are not walking, we help you get on your
feet again. :
We work very closely with Doctors and
nurses, who rely on us to provide them
with vital information to treat your
problem. It is usually an RNA who will take
your blood pressure and pulse, check your
temperature and keep an eye 'on your
respiration.
We mark your day to day changes on your
chart. In circumstances we also administer
necessary treatments and medications.
The R_N.A., in short, is a bedside
specialist. If you start to worry,' you should
always let us know. There is always time to
chat, to ,joke, to hold a hand.
If the rising costs of health care concern
you, I ask you to support the RNAs in this
province in their present struggle for their
rightful recognition in your health care
system.
Your present level of health care can
continue, if some of the unnecessary costs
are pared.
We take pride in the "hands on' nature
of our work, and we care about you.
Our rates are planned with you in mind.
These low cost Sentinel Classified ads are a
great investment.
