The Huron-Pertli Roman Catholic
Separate School Board's major thrust in
special education in the 1985-86 school year
will be to provide an enrichment program
for gifted students.
The annual reviewand approval of the
board's special education plan was done on
April 8. Superintendent of kducation Gaeten
Blanchette said there will be no increase or
decrease to staff this year..
"We'll maintain what we presently have,"
said Mr. Blanchette. ,
Now, for special education in Huron Perth
Separate Schools, there, is one special
education co-ordinator, 15.8 special educa-
tion 'teaching positions, 11.8 resource
withdrawal teaching positions, three
teachers in self-contained classes, one
•enrichment teacher, one speech language
pathologist, three teacher's aides and a
part-time psYchOlogist. _
In its focus on the enrichment students,
talent pools for each school will be made. -
Mt. Blanchette said the talent pools will be
made up of students who score 85 per cent in
two intelligence testing tests.
There will be general enrichment for all
students which will include such activities
as brainstorming, creative problem -solving
technique's and critical thinking skills.
• Talent pool students g one step farther by
being involved in such activities as option
programs in creative writing, painting and
astronomy.
• Mr. Blanchette said the "gifted" stUdents
will go on further to be involved in activities
with a small number of other gifted students
• from Huron and Perth. These activities are
•expected to take place only twice a year and
are dependent upon transportation funding
from the ministry of education.
