Easter visitors in Lochalsh area,
(Intended for last week)
The community would like to send its
congratulations to Mike Snobelen on being,
elected recently as the candidate for the
Progressive Conservatives. in the upcoming'
provincial election May 2.
Janet Wilkins, daughter of Charles and
Mayme Wilkins, has started her new job in
Chatham at a. nursery school in the city.
Janet likes her job and was thankful to find
the position.
Garry and Betty, Jones were in London
recently to attend the funeral of Betty's
uncle, Lionel Shipley. -
Mr. and -Mrs. Art Matthewman have
returned home from the south on Tuesday
evening. They spent January, February
and March in Redington Shores;Florida.
When they first arrived in the south it was
quite cool but it warmed up to a balniy 80
degrees. Unfortunately when they came
home it was cold, windy and snowy.
W elcome back.
George and Betty Moncrief were - in
Aylmer for a few days to look after their
grandson, Scott Moncrief, while , his
parents, Russell and Lesley Moncrief took
a short vacation.
The Bible Study meeting of the Ashfield
Presbyterian Church was held Wednesday
morning in the church. June W ylds chaired -
the meeting.
• Those present at the home of Charles
and Mayme Wilkins for Easter and to help
Ken celebrate his 18th birthday were Laura
and Mabel Campbell' and Elizabeth
Wilkins of Toronto, Barbara Wilkins of
Paris, Bill and Joanne Wilkins, Larry,
• Janet, Laura and Adam Wilkins, Jack and
Sharon Wilkins and David Dadson, all of
Ashfield township. Stella and Lloyd Irwin
of Kinloss Township also visited. Happy

Birthday greetings:,are also sent to Julie
MacDonald, daughter of , George and
Andrea MacDonald, who had a birthday
April 9. Happy birthday Julie.
The Pine River community was sadden-
ed early in the week when word was
received of the death of Rev. Harold Pillen,
a former minister of the Pine River United
Church. Rev. Pillen was 73 years old and
passed away in St. Mary's Hospital,
Kitchener.
Rev. Pillen is survived by his wife, the
former Eva Craven, two daughters,
Darlene, her _ husband Ron McRae of
Brampton, Sandra, her husband Ben Doan
of Brantford and grandchildren, Kenny,
Scott, 'Darcy and Dustin. He was prede-
ceased by one son Kenneth, three brothers
and one sister.
Rev. Pillen was buried Wednesday,
April 10 at the Plattsville United Church.
Congratulations . to Harold and Betty
Anne Elphick on the .arrival of their first
grandchild, Kevin John, son of Joe and.
Lynn Vane Rooy of Ripley, born in 'the
Kincardine General Hospital March 30,
1985. Kevin John weighed 7 lbs. 71/2 oz. He
is a grandson for John and Jean Van Rooy
of Kingsbridge and a great grandson for
Verna Elphick of Lucknow and Mr.' and
Mrs. Gordon Stobo of Teeswater. •
Congratulations to Gordon Kemp and
Barbara Henderson on their marriage April
6, 1985.in Lucknow United Church. A large
crowd attended the wedding reception in
Meeting well attended
The monthly meeting. of the U.C.W. • of
Pine River United Church met Tuesday
evening April 9 at the church.
There were 25 ladies, present.
The, meeting was opened by Helen
Hunter • giving a reading and Barb Mes-
senger also gave a reading entitled, Easter
Images. A hymn was also sung.
The guest speaker of the evening, Irene
Boyle, was introduced. Mrs.. Boyle's
message was very well given and well
received by all.
During her message a number of hymns
were sung.
Verses of Praise from the. Bible were
read by a number of the ladies: Mrs. Boyle.
led in prayer.
The meeting was then turned over to the
president, Ruth Farrell and the recording
secretary, Norma Humphrey.
The Purpose of the U.C.W. . was read in
unison. Norma Humphrey read the minut-
es of the last meeting and business was
discussed. A prayer was given by Ruth
Farrell and Grace was sung.
All the ladies went to the basement for a
lovely lunch and refreshments served by
the lunch committee and a social time was
had by all..
The next meeting will be at the church at
B.15 p.m. on May 14.

Nora . Robb were Edwin and / Janice
McCutcheon and family of lions Head,
Bob, Sandra and Heather Darling of
Hanover, William and Shirley Irvin and
family and Glenn • Robb of Ashfield town-
ship.

family Faster weekend. At Their home was
Russell, Lesley and Scott Moncrief of
Aylmer and Jane, Laura and Jennifer
,Ullrich of London.
Cecil and Jim Webster of Waterloo were
home with -their parents, Kae and Welling-
ton Webster on theweekend. On, Saturday
they visited in Goderich with Norma
Young.
Dorothy (D.A.) MacLennan has returned
toiler home in Lochalsh; after spending the
winter months in London. Visiting her on
the weekend were her son Finlay MacLen-
nan, Brenda and family of Kitchener, and
Margaret (Peggy) Heffernan of London.
