Spring series announced
An exciting new Fall -Spring series was
recently announced by the Blyth Centre for
the Arts for the 1985-86 season.
The complete- series consists of four
terrific shows: The Jazz Greats, Don
Messer's Jubilee, Holly Amtzen, and
Amadeus: The Music of an Age.
The Jazz Greats is a feast for. jazzaholics.
A galaxy of jazz stars drawn from the likes
of Jim Galloway, Ed Bickert, I3illy Butter-
field, and Ralph Sutton will bring the
classics of traditional and dixieland jazz to
the .Blyth Memorial Hall on Sunday,
October 13, 2 p.m.
Don Messer's Jubilee is a Neptune
Theatre, Halifax, production which will be
making Blyth one of the first stops on its
national tour. Based on the long running
and immensely popular television show,
this musical has receivedrave reviews. The
show will be coming to Blyth Sunday,
November 17 at 2 p.m.
The third event in the series will be a
concert by Holly Amtzen. This west coast
singer -songwriter is making a name for
herself east of the Rockies: for her
charismatic performances and powerhouse
voice. She belts out the classics of jazz and
blues, and spices them with her own
compositions and with the folk songs of
Canada's best song writers, including Stan
Rogers, Joan -Mcisaac and _Connie Kaldor.
This concert will be held Sunday, March
30, 1986 at 2 p.m,.
Amadeus: The Music of. an Age is being;
brought to the Blyth stage by members 'of
the Kitchener -Waterloo Symphony Orch-
estra under the direction of Raffi Armen-
ian. The concert, including popular pieces
of Mozart, Haydn and Bach - the baroque
style of music made even more popular
recently by the movie•. Amadeus - will be
performed on Wednesday, May 14, 1986 at
8 p.m.
,The cost of the complete series is $20.00.
A deposit of only $5 at the time of ordering
will reserve your tickets until Labour Day -
you can reserve now and pay later. For
those wishing to attend only two events,
the cost is $15; no deposit option is
available. Single ticket prices will be
$10.00 per event.

Melissa Daer, a grade 1 . student. at
Brookside, found a balloon in a tree last
week with the following note inside: "Hi,
Balloon Finder! Our school is participating
intoe Weekly Reader Writing Pals Balloon'
contest. Please put this message in an
envelope, along with. your name, address,
and city or state in which you found my
message. Then mail it to me at: Hickory,
Grove Elementary School, 2800 Lahser
Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48013.
Tell your focal 'paper that you heard from

Mr. fiddle attended the regional science
fair at Goderich township hall, Holmesville
on April 2. Winners from Brookside were
as follows: grade 6, physical • - Derek
Turner and Kevin Webster, 3rd; grade 7,
physical, Melissa Lvgtenberg, 2nd; grade 8
physical, Ken Strong 1st; biological, Heidi.
Pritchard, 2nd; Debbie Debold, 3rd; grade
7 and 8 winners advance to the county
science fair in Exeter on April 12 and 13.
Grade 6 are doing whale research and
related activities with Mrs, Blake in the
library.
Mrs. Tebbutt's grade 4 class started a
• novel, Winged Colt of Casamia. They have
been working at Easter centres.
• Mrs. Allen's grade 5 class is working on
a theme, Rocky, Mountain Monsters.
Mrs. Norma Gemmel visited the kinder-
garten
indergarten classes on April 2 and 3. She told a
story and did a stick puppet play about a
fox and. a stream. She helped the children
start their own story book. •
Mrs. Cameron's kindergarten class
made styrofoam chicks from egg cartons,
dipped eggs to decorate and, covered
balloons with tissue paper strips to make
Easter eggs.
Mr. Liddle's class organized a Fun. Fair

class and Jodi is in Mr. Sygrove's class.
Mrs; Blanchette's grade 1 class is doing
research on dinosaurs and Easterand
spring activities.
