Winds gusting to 60 kilometres an hour were predicted for Saturday, and indeed things.
did get quite windy around town as the village sign at the east entrance to town and the
windmill *on the lawn of Mrs. Jelle de Jong's home would indicate.

problems in their neighbourhood and
because of the proximity to the disposal
site, the real estate value of their homes
would be reduced.
During the meeting with Patterson and
Page, council was informed . they could
apply to the Ministry of the Environment
for a project manager to take responsibility
for the Lucknow sewage project, relieving
council of the responsibility of finding
another site and supervisinglthe construc-
tion
onstruetion of the system and the treatment
facility. An application to the ministryfor
preliminary engineering and legal costs
will also relieve the village of the financial
burden incurred to date, making it finan-
cially possible to look for another site.
"The Snobelen - Finnigan site is still
number one and will remain so until a
suitable alternative site is found," said
reeve George Joynt in an interview with
The Sentinel April 3.
" W e couldn't afford to see W est W awa-
nosh led down the garden path by Plax-
ton, said Joynt, referring to the town-
ship's legal advisor George Plaxton Q.C: of
London. "Morally we couldn't do that,"
observed Joynt.
"We tried to go the economical route,"
said councillor Ab Murray when contacted
by The Sentinel. ' `diuncil was never told
(they would require) an environmental
exemption. We thought we only had to
meet environment prerequisites," said
Murray referring to the village's applica-
tion for an exemption order required to
exempt the project from the Environment
Assessment Act.
Murray 'said at the March meeting of
Lucknow council he would not consider
searching foranother,., alternative site and
wanted a decision to proceed with the
project before the end of the month or he
would resign. He said he is satisfied' the
engineering and legal costs to date will be
paid by the Ministry of the Environment
