HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1985-04-03, Page 11Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, .`April 3, 1985—Page 11 Area ladies tour movie studios in Hollywood Six Lucknow • area ladies enjoyed a bus trip to California this past month seeing the, sights in the sunshine state, Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada and Utah. Jean Conley, Isabel Miller, Tena Gard- ner, Marion Donais, Caroline Snowden and Helen Todd left •March• 5 . crossing the border to Port Huron and travelling west to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Points of interest along the way included the Gateway Arch at St. Louis which rises 630 feet high and the St. James Winery in Oklahoma City. The tour included the Painted Desert at Phoenix, a visit to Scottsdale; the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas and Death Valley, ,which is 175 feet below sea level. Travelling up the Pacific coast to San Francisco ,they visited Hearst Castle, Uni- versal Studios at Hollywood and enjoyed a two night stay on the Queen Mary: They drove on to the Golden Gate Bridge and toured the Muir Woods where the world's tallest trees grow. They travelled • on to Reno over the Onland Bridge, a double decker, then over. the mountains to Salt Lake City to see the copper mines. They ,spent one night in Juliet the home of former president Nixon and then started home on March 30, travelling 550 miles on the last day. The journey .totalled 7, 071 miles. On the way home they visited Boys`Town in Omaha, Nebraska, built by Father Flannigan. The trip was enjoyable; good friends, good weather, good accommodation and interesting events. Disney. World, Epcott Centre, Cypress Gardens, Busch Gardens, Sunken Gard- ens, Dog Races and a Boat Ride on Tampa Bay were some of the places visited. They made symmetrical paintings in art class. . Mrs. Cameron's kindergarten 2 class. tried potato stamping and made kites. On Friday they went to Robertson's sugar bush and each got a maple sugar treat. Miss Jewitt's grade 2 class made robins for the, bulletin board. They welcome Anjana Dhaliwal to the class. Mrs. Ottewell's grade 2 and grade 3 are doing story writing and looking forward to beginning Easter centres next week The grade 3 class is learning" to writle and doing research on Canadians animals with Mrs. Blake in the library. Mrs. Young's grade 1 and Mrs: Blanch- ette's grade 1 went to London Children's Museum on Tuesday. They saw the Dino- saur Unit and The Street Where You live. Mrs. Graham's grade 4 class completed their puppets, formed into groups, corn- posed little plays and are now putting them on for the primary classes which are enjoying them. Mr. Liddle's grade 6 class is doing a unit on whales, doing research work and related activities in the library with Mrs. Blake. Everyone who wants to participate is getting his - her project ready for the school science fair on Wednesday. Whi- ners may go on to the Regional Science Fair at Holmesville on April 2. The students' council is holding a Clash Day on March 28. This was to have been held before Winter Break but had to be postponed because of stormy weather. The senior .girls and senior boys basketball teams went to Colborne School last week for exhibition, games. Five schools participated in a ping pong tournament at Brookside on Friday. Other schools who came were Ripley, Blyth, Fast Wawanosh and Colborne.
