TO THE EDITOR Ban video hits • To the Editor: Wink we are all too passive about the kind, of TV programming that is projected into our living moms. In particular this year I am outraged everytime I turn the TV on to the local station at 4 p.m. week days and the show VIDEO HITS comes spewing forth. 1 have found that it is regularly vulgar and offensive. Not only is it full of /violence and gross sexuality but it, portrays these things in such a manner as to make it seem funny and acceptable. Fbr example, today when I turned Won in the middle of the show there were shots of large trucks smashing into cars with people in them, interspersed with shots of a fellow laughing. Then there were sequences of people being shot by guns and explosives again alternated with shots of someone laughing. All of thi&. was accompanied by upbeat popular music making the whole thing seem goad and desirable. In this day and age when we are recognizing the impact of the media on the socialization and moral values developed by our young people I think it is very important that programing decisions made by TV Stations be sensitive to the impact of the content of their programs on the local community. - I hope any of your readers who share my concern will write to the TV station as I have done and express their dissatisfaction. Video Hits has no place on television at a time of day when many young ' children are just home from School looking for something to Watch on TV. Our young people need all the positive examples that we can find for them. am aware of the competition the television industry must be feeling from the video popularity but I don't think that's any justification for showing trashy videos on TV.
