accommodation, meats and transportation is
provided. The municipality is expected to pay
the firemen for lost wages while attending the
course.
The courses scheduled for 1985 are full and
there are 100 on the waiting list. Money spent
to send firemen to the regional schools and
the fire college is money well spent, said
Jones, who encouraged the fire board to send
the fire chief or officers to the fire college for
training courses. 1)
Jones also suggested the fire board start
setting up reserves in their budget for'
costs about $100,000 and a new tanker about
$50,000, he said. kre regulations state a 15
year old purnper , cannot be sold to a"
municipality for use by a fire department and
this provides a.guideline for replacement of
trucks, said Jones:
A municipality should not wait until year 13
and then start planning for , a $100,000
expenditure in two years, he said. Reserves
for a n'ew". ,pumper for the Ludmow Fire
Department should be started now. .
Jones also reminded the fire board regula-
tions for firemen's fire protection gear are
• being updated and new standards will be
enforced for pants, coats, boots and mitts
when the regulations are implemented.
Fire departments: across Ontario recently
had to purchase new helmets to meet
requirements legislated by the department of
labour safety standards. ' Jones estimated
when the new regulations come into being it •
could cost $500 to outfit one fireman with
regulation gear.

destroyed in the fore and two other buses were removed from the
burning building. The danger of explosion was present until Lucknow
