Celebrate 93rd birthday at special tea
To celebrate. Mas. Gershom Johnston's
93rd birthday, a birthday tea was held at
'Brookhaven Nursing Home where around
'80 relatives and friends gathered to bestow
good wishes . and gifts. This oonununity
extends birthday wishes for the beginning
of a very happy year.
The after 4 class met last Monday at the
manse where Mts. Lamb served the four
present refreshments. She told them a
story and taught them anew song. They all
made a valentine and joined in malting a
spedal one for their other teacher, Mrs.
Moore, who could not attend.
We are sorry to report that Mrs. Dave
Gibb is a patient in Wingham hospital. The
community and the pupils who ride on . her
bus wish her a most speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Emerson, Sharon
and Brenda of St.' Catharines spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emer-
son.
On Saturday evening Mr.'- and Mrs.
Eldon Emerson visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Orland Irwin.
On Sunday forenoon blowing and
drifting snownmade travelling very danger-
ous and many did not attend church.
The heavy amount of snowfall in this
vicinity has made it necessary for many
folks to have the snow shovelled off their
house and garage roofs. Where icicles
form, they have to be removed or the water
bads up and enters the house causing
damage to the interior ceilings and walls.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Boonstra and Ruth
Ann of Wingham visited Saturday evening
with Mr. and Mos. Bill Uuldriks.
Ken Sinnammn of Wingham visited
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. E. W . Beecroft
and Karen Beecroft of Kitchener spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Beecroft.
Whitechurch 4-H club held their meeting
on Wednesday evening at the home of
Mrs. Archie Purdon.
Mr. and Mrs. David Elliott of London
spent the weekend .with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Elliott. Little Justin Elliott
of Wingham also spent the weekend at' the
Elliott home.
We are happy to report that Mrs. Caesar
recently ret utned home from hospital,

The community is happy to report that
Mrs. Joe Tiffin was able to return home on
Sunday from Victoria Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. George Lubbers, Karen,
Brian, Dennis and Richard visited on.
Sunday evening with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. John Benjamips of R R 1, Blyth,
where they celebrated Mrs. Lubber's and
her sister's birthday with around 20
present. The community extends friendly
thoughts and birthday gladness for a year
of happiness.
Norma Rintoul visited .Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. • Leonard Robinson, Mark, Tracy
and Tim of 'Belgrave.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan visited
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs: Lame Howes of
Teeswater.
Kairshea Classic Cooks make pinwheels
The first meeting of the 4-H club
Karishea . Classic Cooks, was held on
February 9, at the home'of Joanne' de Boer.
The executive is to be Heather Howald,
president; Katrina Howald, vice-president;.
Barbara Stein, secretary -treasurer and_
Meaghan Clarke, press reporter. Leading
the group are Mrs: John Stein and
assistant leader Joanne de Boer.
After the business was completed the
Classic Cooks took to the books and read
through meeting number 1.
Then the baking began! The , cooks
prepared a sumptuous snack of whole
wheat cheese biscuits, basic tea biscuits
and cinnamon pinwheels. A delicious time
was had by all! -
Meeting 2
The second meeting of the Karishea
Classic Cooks was held on Thursday,
February 14 at the home of Joanne de
Boer.
After ,each member told how well their
r,.
tea biscuits turned out at home, Joanne
showed how to make thebasic pastry,
which she made into an apple pie.
Everyone combined their talents and -made,
a delicious blueberry pie.
An experiment followed, testing how the
types of fats used . in .pastry will change its
characteristics.
The meeting concluded with the 4-H
pledge and big pices of blueberry and
apple pie..for every one. Watch out weight
watchers, here we come!!
