The president, Mrs: John Mowbray opened the meeting with a poem, God is Love. Mrs. Levis, Mrs. Collyer and Mrs. Steer led in prayer. Mrs. Donald Macintyre conducted the Bible Study on Prayer: All churches need Study on Korea. It is a very old civilization prayer, especially young churches and aidreceiving congregations. The mll call was answered by a Bible verse with the word, church, by 18 members and one visitor. The offeratory prayer was given by Mrs. Roely de Boer. A brief report of the annual meeting of Maitland Presbyterial was given by Mrs. Ira Dickie. The World's Day of Prayer will be held Mardi 1 in St. Peter's Anglican Church. Taking part will be Mrs. John Mowbray and Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall. It was decided that cutlery be bought for the church kitchen from 'the Ladies' Aid Fund. Mrs:. Mowbray continued the Mission dating back to 2000 B.C. With a chart she showed the early class system from the king down to the slaves. Readings were given by Mrs. Harry Iavis and Mrs. Bruce Hamilton. Courtesies. were by Mrs. Steer and Mrs. Herb Buckton closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ramsay; Mrs. Maclntyre and Mrs. Steer and a social half hour enjoyed. Indicate interest m smocking course St. Helens Branch of the Women's Institute held their Citizenship and World Affairs meeting in the hall January 31.. Sixteen members and one child were present. The roll call, A world figure I admire, brought a variety of . answers such as Bishop Tutu, the Queen, and Diana, Princess of Wales. The books at the .library are . to be changed on February 20. Several of the members are interested in , ..taking the smocking course, to start soon, led by Luba Stratton. The next card party will be held on February 25, weather permitting. A letter was read from the Huron County library Board, requesting donations to- wards micro filming Women's Institute records.. A committee was put in charge of co-or- dinating a group display for the Fall Fair. _ The Sunshine Sisters banquet was discussed and April 15 is a suggested date. Celia Aitchison read the minutes of yesteryear and also, Daily. Valentines. Coping with the Winter Blahs, was read by Isobel Miller. Members also enjoyed participating in a Georgraphy Match, conducted by Elaine Errington. Lunchwas served by Barb. Tyler and Donelda Jamieson. Conducts mission study on Korea The afternoon W .M.S. of the, Lucknow Presbyterian Church met on Wednesday, February 6 at the manse. Mrs. Allison Ramsay was the hostess. The theme of the meeting 'was, Love. Mrs. Cyril Boyle opened the meeting with two appropriate readings. Mrs. Noble Johnston gave the Bible Study- and meditation. Mrs. Wallace W O 1 - son gave the offertory prayer. Twenty ladies answered the roll call with - a Bible verse on Love. Mrs. Austin Lome, secretary -treasurer, read the minutes of the last meeting and conducted the business of the meeting. Mrs.. Wallace Wilson gave a reading on Saint Valentine. Mrs: William Henderson gave the Mission Study on Korea. Mrs. Jim Aitchison gave two appropriate readings and Mrs. Jim Smith gave the Glad Tidings. Several hymns _were sung and Rhoda MacKenzie dosed the meeting with prayer. A social hour followed. Surprise 75th birthday party A surprise 75th birthday party was held on Saturday, February 2, 1985 for Viola Hallam. Her family gathered at the Lucknow Community Centre for a smorgas- bord dinner. A birthday cake, made by her grand- daughter's husband, was at the centre of the head table, flanked by 'white tapered candles. Mrs. Hallam was joined at the head table by her two eldest sons, Tom and his wife, Verna, from Auburn and Fred and his wife, Dorothy, from Kincardine. Mrs. Hallam was presented with a yellow rose corsage and a rose coloured • velour swivel rocking chair. Family pictur- es were taken after dinner. The hallwas tastefully decorated with pink and white streamers and silver birthday greetings.
