Study problems church faces in Korea
Unit
Unit 1 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met in the
choir room on Tuesday, February 5.
Freda Button presided and opened with
ti a poem, The Secret of living. Fifteen
members answered the roll call, a bible
verse on compassion. The business was,.
conducted, committee reports given and
the offering was dedicated.
Grace Gibson conducted the worship and
gave a reading, A Gift for My Neighbours.
Edna McDonald read the scriptures con-
cerning mercy, kindness and getting
involved. She also gave the reading,
Praying Hands, and explained the interest-
ing story about it.
Elaine Irwin gave the mission study on
Korea explaining the different styles of
worship and the problems the church
faces.
Freda Button dosed the meeting with a CHURCH NEWS
poem, There's No Problem Too Big.
Unit 2
Unit 2 of Ludknow U.C.W. met at the
Sepoy Apartments on Tuesday, February 5
with 16 members and eight visitors
present. The committee, Mrs. W . V. John-
ston, Mrs. Garnet Henderson and Mrs.
Murray Henderson served dessert and tea
prior to the meeting.
Mrs. Johnston introduced guest speaker
Rita Rice, who is the director at the' Day
Centre for the Homebound in Wingham.
As she showed her slides, she gave a most
interesting commentary on this Centre.
This included the work done by the volun-
teers, the recreational facilities, exercise
sessions, games, crafts, films, day trips,
meals and parties, etc. She •described the
organization, how it was financed and the
'sources of funding. Following the question
and answer period, Mrs. Walden thanked -
Miss Rice.
Mrs. Johnston opened the meeting with
a prayer on peace. The theme of the

Dungannon institute plan Brookside card party
The Dungannon W omen's Institute
meeting was held February 8 in the
Dungannon United Church basement. Fust
vice president Bessie McNee welcomed the
small turnout of nine members and four
visitors.
Each member introduced their friend
and named a Canadian industry. Secretary
Alma Black gave the correspondence
report. Essie and Sam Gibson sent 'a thank
you for the silk flower arrangement sent on
their recent wedding anniversary. '
4-H leadership clubs were announced
and the Dungannon Institute agreed to
sponsor them. It was decided to send $20 to
Wingham Homebound Centre this year.
Each Memberis to make a craft to take to
the Erland Lee Home in May on the bus
trip. The Dungannon Institute will present
a gift to Martha Curran, Vicki Pentland and
Debbie Gregory for achieving 4-H provin-
cial honours.
The Dungannon Institute will sponsor a
.card party at Brookside Wednesday,
March 13 and Mary Robson, Jean Erring-
ton and 'Peggy Purdon are on the table
committee.
The financial report was given by treas-
urer Alma Black. Pennies for friendship
were received - 5c for every bed in your
house.
The motto, A man's feet 'should be
planted in his own country, but his eyes
should survey the world, was given by
Bessie McNee. The punch line proved
thought provoking - A man doesn't get
paid for what he knows, but gets paid for

A contest was conducted by Jean
Errington called the Parcel Game. Winners
were Margaret Young, Peg Purdon, Alma
Black and Jean Errington.
Mary Robson presented a paper on
Agriculture and members found the 1935
Canadian Countryman interesting. It sold
for 5c a copy back then. Memories were
stirred when Mary read the Song of the
Lazy Farmer.A 1927 Eaton catalogue
prices made everyone realize the cost of,
things not so long ago when wages and
prices were both low - 7 packages of garden.

Bessie thanked Mary Robson for hosting
the meeting. Roberta Linskill accompanied
on the piano for the singing of the Queen.
