Intermediates win two games
The Lucknow Lancers picked up a couple
of wk on the weekend as they handed
Moncton a 9 -.2 drubbing and squeaked by
Mildmay 7 - 6.
Moncton got things going in the first
minute as they tucked one in behind new
Lancer goalie Denis Kerr. Steve MacPher-
son evened the score midway through
the period and then Grant Murray took
overlcoring three straight goals to end the
period 4.. 1 fpr the Lancers.
Moncton came out fighting in the
second period and after the referee figured
things out, both teams found themselves
with more room on the bench. Also in the
second, Randy Alton and Steve MacPher-
son netted two more goals for a 6- 1 Lancer
lead heading into the third.
Lucknow got goals from John MacLeod,
Pat Murray and Dave MacKinnon in the
third to round out the scoring. The game
ended on a sour note, however, as a high
shot caught Dave MacKinnon above the
eye which sent him to the hospital for
stitches.
Sunday night the Lancers just wouldn't
quit as they fell .behind early in the game
but came on strong at the end to down
Mildmay 7 - 6. The "muscle line" of John.
MacLeod, Pat Murray and Grant Gilchrist
kept the Lancers in the game early as John
MacLeod converted a Greg Hamilton shot,
to give. Lucknow a 1 - 0 lead.
Mildmay tied the game at one and in the
second scored tvvo more to take a 3 - 1 lead.
The "muscle line" again found themselves
in Mildmay territory and this time it was
Grant Gilchrist getting the pass from Pat
Murray to close the gap 3 - 2. Mildmay
regained their two goal lead but Steve
Simpson brought the Lancers within a goal
on a pass from Steve MacPherson. Then
with one minute left in the second period
Steve MacPherson tucked one behind the
Mildmay net minder and Steve Simpson
did the same a half minute later as the
Lancers led 5 - 4 after two periods.
Steve and Larry MacPherson each added
a goal in the third as the Lancers hung on
for a 7 - 6 win. Denis Kerr gained his
second• straight victory in net for the
Lancers as he came up with some big saves
when they were needed. ,
The Lancers travel to St. Clements next.
Friday as the Lancers take their two game
winning .streak on the road Local viewers
will get a, chance to see this rejuvenated
Lancer squad next Sunday as the Lancers
take on the Teeswater Falcons.

again. _
Lucknow defeated Hensel! Saturday
morning 9 - 4 to qualify for the champ-
ionship game. The local lads led 3 - 1 at the
end of the first period on goals by Donnie
Gammie assisted by Michael Vandervelde.
Adrian Rau assisted by Russell Sutton and
Rau assisted by Rod Crich and Dale
Priestap.
In the second period Lucknow dominated
/with three more goals, from Crish assisted
by Brad Murray; Robin Neable assisted by
Mune; Murray from Sutton.
In the third period the scoring was wide
open with each team scoring three goals.
Lucknow goals were from Murray assisted
by Priestap; Murray from Kenny Neable
and Michael Vandervelde, and Kenny
Neable from Robin Neable and Michael
Vandervelde.
Paul Helm played a consistent game in
net looking sharp on deflections and acting
quick to stop rebound shots.
Atom Bs on winning streak
The Atom Bs have started on a winning
streak with two big wins.
January 4 saw Wingham Atom Bs in
Lucknow for a 7.00 p.m.. game. Lucknow
played a tight game ending with a final 2 -
1 score against the Drayton tournament
winners.
Wingham opened the scoring with a goal
early in the first period, and Lucknow's
Warren Andrew, ,answered in the second
and third periods., Assisting with the third
period goal was Jeff Brindley. Keith Todd
did a super job in the net.
Saturday, January 12, the Atom Bs were
on the road to Kincardine for a game
against their Atom House League team.
Warren started Lucknow off in the first
period on an assist from Nathan Deer.
Nathan scored a few minutes later,
assisted by Danny Kerr and Steven
Adams. •
Kincardine found the net 20 second into
the second period and Danny Kerr
retaliated unassisted.
In the third, Lucknow dented the twine
three more times. Scoring were Doug Helm
from Mark Stoll, Mark Baker km Doug
Helm and Warren Andrew from Adrian
Helm. Final score was 6 1 for Lucknow.
Next game for the Atom Bs is Friday
evening against Belgrave.
AtomA team win tournament
The Lucknow Atom As won the Wing -
ham and District Optimists Atom tourna-
ment in Wingham, January 5.
They took on Mitchell Friday evening in
a hard game, winning with a score of 5 - 1.
Scoring for Lucknow were Chris Stevenson
with Justin Murray assisting; Vince Stick -
lend with Rob Crich assisting; Justin
Murray with Chris Stevenson assisting;
Justin Murray once more with Donnie
Cuillerier assisting andone more from
Vince Sticklend with Clint Murray assist-
ing. Excellent goal tending from Adam
Skillen really helped in this game as
Mitchell was not prepared to give up
easily.
Lucknow returned to Wingham ',well
prepared to take on atria -Logan in a ifery
intense hockey game. With the first period
scoreless, it was even more intense in the
second period. Adam Skillen was excellent
in net, stopping shot after shot which
allowed Justin Murray to score three goals.
One unassisted and one with Chris Steven-
son and one with Ray Dalton assisting._
Elma Logan scored on a penalty shot at the
1.19 'mark making it 4 - 1.
Chris Stevenson came out in the thitd
and scored with Justin Murray assisting.
Stevenspn scored again, five minutes later
unassisted. Elma-Logan scored three goals
in the third period making it 5 - 4 and With ,
everyone hanging on to the edge of their
seats, Justin Murray clinched the game
with 2.42 left to play, making it a 6 - 4 win.
The Stevenson and Murray line and
fantastic goal tending from Adam Skillen
really pulled this one out of the hat.
The last genre was played against
Howick and was another exciting game but
not as intense as the game 'against
El ma - Loge n .
Lucknow opened the scoring with a goal
from Justin Murray with Vince Sticklend
assisting and then a goal from Chris
Stevenson unassisted. Justin Murray scor-
ed in the second unassisted/ and Chris
Stevenson in the third with Matt Drennan
assisting; making it a 4 - 2 win over
Howick. They were a very tired hockey
team but the hung in fora championship
win.
Adam Skillen received the mostvaluable
player award for the tournament, and he
certainly deserved it, as his goal tending is
exceptional at all times. It was a great team
effort and a lot of hard work and everyone
really dug in to help keep the other teams
off the scoreboard.
