mas hells will ring out their Glory to God in the Highest. and
please God in our own hearts also Willbemelody unto the Lord.
If Christmas is anything to us at au, it is surely a voiee call-
ing us to the love of simple things in life and religio, . It is a time for thinking and sing-
ing about a baby, a mother, a cradle;. about sheep andxen, the hills and the stars.
We are really asked at this season to think•of God through the medium of these ever%
day things. In the still small voice of these quiet simplicities with which we are intimate,
to the hearing ear and the understanding heart God speaks. We are recalled from the
fallacy of supposing that God must have some earthquake and fire demonstration, some
terrifying, puzzling thing, in order to communicate His will end love to us. The quiet,
twinkling stars will to the devout, waiting soul reveal the way to the Lord of light. 'Wise
men are finding Intal in -these days as did men_n old_- TThere-are.earn-that are not too dull
to catch the song of better things and the ne-w flay of God, as, like the shepherds, they at-
tend to the simple duties of field and farm and business. Every baby's cradle since the
manger cradle of Bethlehem has been bathed in a holy light. It pleases God to come to
mothers and fathers through the heart and need and love of a child, sweet in its simplicity.
The final mysteries of life may open to us and the triumph of God may be shared by
us if we open our eyes afresh to the simple God-given things. -One great Christian has said:
"Surely this is to live as seeing Him who is invisible -to see little children, sheep, oxen,
the open fields, the hills and the stars, all within that final context of light and music and
-movement which are but other names for -faith and hope and love!"
