East Wawanosh students have busy Christmas

The Kindergartens have been
busy making reindeer, wreaths,
and dough decorations. In their
Christmas centres they strung
popcorn, sewed stockings and
made decorations for the Christ
mas tree. With their buddies they
have made number books and
Christmas books. Every day they
check the weather to put on their
calendar. For their play in the
Christmas concert they wore their
pyjamas.
The Grade Ones enjoyed being
Santas in the Christmas concert.
Their buddies in Grades 3-4 helped
them write letters to Santa. They
have been doing lots of activities
for Christmas for their Christmas
folder.Theya re happytohavea

course.
Mr. Fisher's Grade 3 class is
having lots of fun at the Christmas
Centres. There are six centres in
the room, these being Imagina
tion. Candy Cane Math, Stories,
Around the World. Word Fun and
Art. The students learn and
practice a variety of skills at each
centre. The feeling of Christmas is
certainly in the air in the Grade 3
class.
Jo Ann Churchill-Mason wrote a
song to the tune of London Bridge.
Here’s how it goes --
Santa, Santa
Come to me,
I am sad,
Yes, I am.
Santa, Santa
Come to me
Come to me, please.
Becky Van Camp wrote a won
derful legend of “How Reindeer
CametopullSanta’sSleigh’’. Here
it is:
Do you ever wonder how the
reindeer got to be the animal that
pulled Santa’s sleigh? Well, it all
began one cold winter night.
Usually Santa was happy but Silver
Star, his horse, was sick. What was
Santa to do? Silver Star, his horse,
was the one that pulled Santa every
Christmas. How would Christmas
go on?
In the forest Dasher, a reindeer,
heard Santa, “I must go tell
Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid,
Vixen, Donner and Blitzen”.
Finally they all heard the message.
“We must tell Santa that we would
be happy to pull the sled’’, the
reindeer said
The reindeer all went to Santa’s
place and were appointed to pull
the sleigh. Christmas would go on
after all.
GRADE THREE-FOUR
Our class has been doing art
activities like making Christmas
wreaths and German bells and a
Christmas ball. We are making
Advent Calendars.
Advent Calendarsare used to
help make the waiting for Christ
mas easier. First you have to draw a
picture and colour it. Next you have
to decide where you want the
doors. Then you have to cut the
doors on three sides. Next get
another sheet of paper and outline
the doors on it. Then you draw
small pictures in the spaces and
glue the two sheets together. Your
calendar is finished.
Chris Casemore brought a box
and we brought in some food and
toysforfamiliesthat don’t have
enough food or toys this Christ
mas. This box was donated to the
Salvation Army in Wing ham for
the Christmas Bureau in Huron
County.

GRADE FOUR-FIVE
The Grade 4-5 class performed
some Folk Dancing for the Christ
mas concert, led by Mr. Scott. Mrs.
Simpson led us in our play called,
“Too Fat For The Chimney”.
The Grade 4-5 class has been
involved in Christmas math. One
example is helping Santa to get
through a maze using thefour basic
math operations. In another activi
ty we tried to determine the
number of gifts received during the
12 days of Christmas.
We started a Christmas langu
age unit. The Grade 4-5 class is
learning about legends, carols and
countries. We are really enjoying
it.
GRADE SIX-SEVEN
Recently we entered the Legion
Essay, Poster and Poem contest.
Cheryl Campbell placed second in
the essay contest.
We presented a play called,
“That Spells Christmas”, at the
concert. It was about the missing
letters at Christmas, and Santa was
afraid that all the children would
not have a Merry Christmas unless
it was found.
Since the Winter Olympics are
being held in Calgary, our class has
been making posters, doing pro
jects on some of the countries that
are attending the Winter Olympics
and writing stories.
Plans are now underway for a
two day excursion to Toronto in the
spring.

GRADE SEVEN-EIGHT
We have been decorating the
classroom for Christmas. Win
dows and doors have been painted.
We have been making our own
Christmas magazines.
For the Christmas concert, we
presented a play - “Santa’s Big,
Big, Big, Big Problem”, and a
rhythm and tumbling routine.
Also our class entered the
Legion Essay. Poster and Poem
Contest. Out of our class, Lana
Thompson, won $20 for first place
in the poster contest, and Crystal
Black won $10 for third place.

On December 10 the school held
its annual Christmas Concert.
Many people turned out to watch
the presentation. The whole gym
nasium was filled with parents and
relatives. This year’s concert was
based on the poem ‘‘The Night
Before Christmas”. Each class did
a play or another type of entertain
ment based on a certain verse of the
poem. The concert went extremely
well.
On December 17 we held a
