Three Grade One students from Walton Public School acted the part of “Christmas Symbols” in the skit “Canadian Customs” at the school's Christmas Concert held at Duff’s Church last Thursday. The children sang several songs about the familiar symbols. Walton Women's Institute holds Christmas program The Walton Women’s Institute members enjoyed a Christmas Program for their December meet- ing at their hall, Wednesday evening. President, Helen Craig opened the meeting with a poem, “Christ­ mas Wishes” and conducted the business after the opening ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada. Margaret Shortreed was pianist. Minutes and correspo- dence were read. Members an­ swered the roll call with a line of their favourite Christmas music. Thirteen members took part in the Christmas Program consisting of songs, recitations, a play, a duet and several carols. Marion Godkin read, “Santa Retires in Florida.” Helen Craig closed with a poem, “Crooked Little Tree”, followed by a gift exchange. A tasty lunch was served by hostesses. Narrators were Loni Horst, Mark Beuerman, Chad Hoegy, Justin Bourne, Matthew Shortreed, Sherry Power, Kelly Boven and Craig Somerville. The cast was: boy, Brent Pryce; girl, Melissa Pinkney; mother, Ste­ phanie MacDonald; father, Jason Badley; boy, Brent Haselgrove; Lucia, Erin Siemon; Lucia’s sis­ ters, Loni Horst and Barb Kenney; Star boys, Danny Shpak, Robby Kenney and Jeff Bourne. Songs sung were St. Lucia Day - Santa Lucia” (revision). Hanukkah - Jewish Festival of Lights, was put on by Grade Three. Narrators were Valerie Collins, Amy Siemon, Sandy Rijkhoff and Joshua Dietz. The cast included: mother, Shannon Davies; father, Bradley Hoegy; children, Clara Glauser and Sherry-Lyn Hugill. A dance, “Tea and Rice’’ - a folk dance from Israel was performed by Mandy Workman, Chad McCal­ lum, Sherry-Lyn Hugill, Valerie Collins, Clara Glauser, Bradley Hoegy, Amy Siemon, Colleen McCallum and Lee Ann McDon­ ald. Songs were ‘‘My Candles”, O Hanukkah,’’ and “Hora Dance Song’’. The choir sang, “My Dreydie” and ‘‘Happy Holidays”. Duvali - Indian Festival of Lights was performed by Grade Three. Narrators were Jason Shortreed, Lee Ann McDonald and Mandy Workman. The cast included: mother, Colleen McCallum; daughters, Tammy Neil, Uzma, Christina Martens; sons, Randy Linton and Jeremy McNichol. The Chinese New Year was performed by Grade two. Narra­ tors were: TracyNeil, ChadHoegy, Mark Beuermann, Craig Somer­ ville and Kerry Blake. The cast included: drummer, Matthew Shortreed; the Dragon, Brent Haselgrove, Brent Pryce, Erin Siemon, Chad Hoegy, Jeremy Benneweis, Sherry Power, Jason Badley, Loni Horstand Melissa Pinkney; kite carriers, Robby Kenney, Kelly Boven, Danny Shpak, Barb Kenney and Tracy Neil; lantern carriers, Jeff Bourne, Mark Beuermann, Stephanie Mac­ Donald, Kerry Black, Craig Somer­ ville, and Justin Bourne. Songs included ‘‘Let’s go fly a kite” and “Dragon”. Finale with Neil Saur the narrator, included singing, “It’s a Small World.” Thanks was given to all those who helped in any way to help the children share this splendid pro­ duction with the large crowd of parents, grandparents and friends who attended this concert.
