Phone 526-7589 Auburn euchre parties start again Jan. 5 I/V7 holds Christmas meeting Euchre parties will commence again on Tuesday, January 5 at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall. Mr. Harold Baechler is a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospital, London where he underwent eye surgery on Sunday. He is wished a speedy recovery. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Giousher and family on the death of her father John Snyder in Stratford General Hospi- tal in his 76th year. He was formerly a resident of the Auburn area. He also farmed at RR 5. Goderich a few years ago. Recent visitors with Mr. and Santa and Mrs. Claus were featured in this skit put on at the Hullett Central School Christmas Concert in Londesboro on Wednesday night. Short Term Mrs. Tom Jardin were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Robertson of Bramp­ ton, Mrs. Annie Robertson of Meaford, Mr. Paul Jardin and Mr. Donald Jardin, both of Kitchener. Pastor Jim and Lorraine Carne were very surprised at a Pastor and wife appreciation night held at the home of John and Helen Baumback in Port Albert. They were recip­ ients of a dishwasher and a microwave oven stand. Recent visitors with Pastor and Mrs. Carne were Miriam Carne, Stoney Creek and Cheryl Facey of Fruitland, Ontario. On December 18the Community Hall was beautifully decorated for the Christmas meeting. The com­ mittee was Marian Haggitt, Erma Cartwright and Viola Raithby. The president Mrs. Len Arch­ ambault welcomed all present. There were 12 members and four guests. The Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and Grace opened the meeting. Everyone enjoyed a pot luck dinner. Ruth Jardin led the- Carol Singing and told the origin of some. Members of the Board were encouraged to keep a watchful eye on the possible establishment of a Women’s Health Clinic in Huron County. Elinor Caplan, Minister of Health of Ontario, is in charge of implementing the Powell Report which calls for government funded women clinics to be set up in Ontario. These clinics among other services will be doing abortion referrals. There was considerable discus­ sion on the one-hour-long Pro-Life Telethon which will be featured on brime-time television across Can­ ada in April, 1988. This event is being sponsored by Alliance for Life of Winnipeg, the national educational body of the pro-life movement. Voice For Life is contacting the ministers in the area about bulletin inserts to advertise the program prior to its viewing. The group is also donating money to help cover the costs of produc­ tion. Plans were made for a trip to Toronto by some members on December 10 to take part in a 24-hour prayer vigil outside the Morgentaler abortion clinic. De­ cember 10 marks the three-year anniversary of its opening. A draw on two crib quilts was made, the winners being Mrs. Beda Willie of Windsor and Rose Ohm of Wingham. The meeting closed with a Christmas party including a delicious pot luck meal and exchange of gifts. The meeting closed with the singing of the Queen. TOWNSHIP OF WEST WAWANOSH West Wawanosh Township Council, acting as the “Celebration 88” Celebration Committee, is requesting assistance in its selection of township residents as deserving recipients of the medals and certificates being awarded by the Government of Canada. Citizens are asked to submit nominations for council to consider in their selection of such residents. Categories are as follows: Medals: 1. Athlete -1 male and 1 female for oustanding contribution to their sport and community. 2. Volunteer-for unselfish contribution to sports and community. 3. Coach -for devoting time to guidance of athletes toward fair play and sportsmanship. 4. Official - for promoting fair play and sportsmanship. 5. Sponsor - a business for monetary contribution toward development of amateur sport.
