Right Worshipful Brother Norman Hoover of Brussels will be presented with his 60-year jewel at the first meeting of St. John’s Lodge #284 in the New Year, in recognition of his six decades of service to the Masonic Lodge in the village. Mr. Hoover joined the Lodge in 1927. Rebekahs hold party Norman Hoover gets 60 yr. jewel Closeto35 Rebekahs enjoyed their Christmas Party in the Lodge Hall, which was decorated in the Christmas theme. After singing grace, all enjoyed a bountiful smorgasbord supper preared by the lunch committee convened by Mary Davidson. After the meal; social convenor Janet McCutcheon and her com­ mittee were in charge of a program w hich was enjoyed by all present. Santa appeared and gifts were distributed from under the Christ­ mas tree, then the exchange of gifts took place revealing our "Secret Sisiters” of 1987. New ‘‘Secret Sisters” were chosen for 1988. I hree draws were held with I i I Edna McLellan winning a sweat­ er, Gerry Exel winning a kitchen ornament and Dean Wheeler winning a floral arrangement. A warm, wonderful holiday to you and yours! Brown L/ At the next regular meeting of St. John’s Lodge #294, AF & AM, Brussels, Right Worshipful Broth­ er Norman Hoover will be present­ ed with his 60-year jewel in recognition of his six decades of service to the Lodge. Mr. Hoover joined the Lodge in 1927, and served as Master in 1932-33. He later served as treasurer of St. John’s Lodge, and as the District Treasurer of the North Huron District from 1952 to 1987, a period of 35 years. He was elected District Deputy Grand People Mrs. Verna Thomas entertained 41 members of her family to a delicious Christmas dinner catered to by the Ladies Auxiliary on Dec. 13. Membersof herfamily were present from Clinton, Hamilton, Stratford, London, Walkerton, Milton, Walton, Listowel, Brus­ sels and Grey Township. Eleven other members of her family were unable to attend. Jack, Marilyn and Ken Higgins held Christmas for the Higgins family on Dec. 19. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Higgins; Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar of RR 1, Alienford; Mr. and Mrs. Brian David, Ashley and Ryan of Shallow Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Edgar of Owen Sound; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ward, Jeff and Julie of St. Mary’s; Miss Sandy Kechnie of Exeter; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Higgins, Dennis and Ronald of Blyth; Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver and David of RR2, Clifford and Miss Pam Brown of Scarborough. D’Arcy Rainey is home from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, to spend Christmas with his mother, Toby, of RR 4, Brussels. I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosper­ 7 Master of the North Huron District in 1951-52. Mr. Hoover was born and raised in Grey Township, attended ele­ mentary school in the township, Brussels Continuation School, and the Stratford Normal School. After teaching for a few years in Morris Twp. school, he took over the operation of the family farm on Concession 9, GreyTwp., where he remained until retiring to Brussels in 1979. Mr. Hoover married Reta Smith of Morris Township in 1935, and the couple have two sons and two ous New Year. Special wishes to all those in hospitals and nursing homes. Also to everyone who has helped me by giving me their news throughout the year. Santa Claus dropped in early tc Ralph Rowland, in the form of a large door mat bearing the old gent’s picture, which was blown into Ralph’s yard on the day of the big storm, December 15. He says he will gladly return the mat to its rightful owner, if the owner will identify it.
