Crusaders winning streak extended to 4 The Brussels Crusaders extend­ ed their winning streak to four games with two impressive victor­ ies on the weekend. With the victories the Crusaders upped their record to five wins against two losses. On Saturday nightthe Crusa­ ders blanked the Milverton 4-Wheel-Drives8 toO. After a slow start Kevin Deitner got the Crusa­ ders on the scoreboard converting passes from Mike Watson and Troy Pocaluyko at the 8:35 mark. Brussels upped its lead to 2 to 0 three minutes later when Troy Pocaluyko scored a powerplay goal. Assists went to Brian Ten Pas and Kevin Deitner. During the first period the Crusaders outshot Milverton 10 to 9. The Crusaders came out skating in the second period and complete­ ly dominated Milverton, scoring four unanswered goals. Rob Car­ diff scored the first goal of the period converting a pass from brother Stewart 30 seconds into the period. One minute later Ken Higgins scored on a nice setup frorp Ken Cousins to give the Crusaders a 4 to 0 lead. Midway through the period Randy Clarke scored with assists going to Rob Cardiff and Mike Watson. Kevin Deitner completed the scoring in the second period as he banged in a setup from Troy Pocaluyko to register a shorthand­ ed goal. During the second period the Crusaders outshot Milverton 13 to 4. The Crusaders continued their dominance in the third period. Good goaltending by Don Gasho limited the Crusaders to two goals. Kevin Deitner got the hat-trick when he converted passes from Troy and Trevor Pocaluyko mid­ way through the period. With less than five minutes to go Ken Cousins scored on passes from Dave Stephenson and Andy Tel­ ford to complete the Crusader scoring. Mike Smith played a steady game to earn the shut-out. During the game the Crusaders outshot Milverton 34 to 17. BLASTSEAFORTH On Sunday, Brussels continued their rivalry with Seaforth. How­ ever Brussels left little doubt that they were ready for this game as they outscored the Seahawks 6 to 0 in the first period. The Crusaders came to life eight minutes into the game when Paul Johnston scored on passes from Troy Pocaluyko and Kevin Deitner. This goal seemed to ignite the Crusaders as they stormed the Seaforth end for much of the rest of Kerrie Shepherd of RR1, Blyth and Peter McDonald of RR 2, Brussels won the gold medal in Novice Dance at the Canadian Divisional Figure Skating Championships in London last weekend. The pair will now advance to competition at the Canadian National Finals in Victoria, B.C., in January. the period. Paul Johnston scored his second goal of the game three minutes later on a pass from Randy Clarke. Kevin Deitner scored the Crusaders’ third goal of the game on a pass from Andy Telford. With three minutes left in the period Dave Stephenson converted a pass from Ken Cousins. In the final two minutes of the period Seaforth ran into penalty problems and they proved to be costly. With 1:32 left in the period Trevor Pocaluyko scored a power­ play goal and once minute later Kevin Deitnerscoredfrom Troy Pocaluyko. During the period Brussels outshot Seaforth 14 to 10. During the second period both teams traded two goals apiece. Seaforth ended the shutout string of the Brussels goaltending duo of Smith and Smith at eight periods when a centering pass hit a Brussels defenceman and unex­ pectedly deflected into the Crusa­ der goal. Ken Higgins scored less than a minute later on passes from Randy Clarke and Trevor Pocaluyko to retain the Crusader six-goal league. With less than five minutes remaining in the period Len Stamper upped the Crusader lead to 8 to 1 on a pass from Rob Cardiff. Late in the period Seaforth scored their second goal as Brussels had difficulty clearing their puck out of their end. In the second period Brussels outshot Seaforth 15 to 10. In the third period, Brussels continued to take the play to Seaforth. Eight minutes into the period Troy Pocaluyko scored on passes from Kevin Deitner and Andy Telford. Late in the period the Crusaders came on strong and scored three unanswered goals. Kevin Deitner completed his hat-trick on passes from Troy Pocaluyko and Randy Clarke. With just over a minute to play Ken Cousins scored when he converted passes from Ken Hig­ gins and Trevor Pocaluyko. Dave Stephenson completed the Crusa­ der scoring as he deked the goalie on a breakaway which was setup by passes from Ken Cousins and Kevin Deitner. In the game the Crusaders outshot Seaforth 40 to 28. Ron Smith played a steady game in goal, limiting the Sea­ hawks to two goals. TwoCrusaders should be given a salute for their strong play on the weekend. Kevin Deitner register­ ed 10 points on six goals and four assists while Troy Pocaluyko had eight points scoring two goals and assisting on six others. The Crusaders now have a lull in their home schedule. They go on the road for two games and a tournament before they play back in Brussels on January 10 against the Seaforth Seahawks. The Crus­ aders’ next game is Sunday, Dec. 20 when they take on the Comets in Drayton.
