The Bulls spent too much time in their own end as they dropped a 6-2 decision. Sports Atom Houseleaguers win two games at tournament BY SILVER SKATES Saturday, December5 the Atom houseleague travelled to Howick for a tournament. The first game was played Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Mount Forest. Mount Forest won by a score of 6-5. Goals for this game were from Scott Arthur, two, Shawn Hakkers, two and Marc Bricker, one. Their second game on Saturday was played at 1 p.m. against Fergus. This was aclose game with Josh Yanchus stopping many shots on net. Fergus scored in the last four minutes of play of the first period, but Blyth player Shawn Hakkers assisted by Benjie Hakkers scored with only 59 seconds left in the first period, ending first period tied. For the second period Marc Bricker scored unassisted. Fergus hadoneothergoalinthe second period. In the third period Tim Cowan scored assisted by Benjie Hakkers and the last goal unassisted by Benjie Hakkers. Ending this game 4-2 for Blyth. The third game was played on Sunday against Durham. The first period was scoreless. In the second period Tim Lyons scored assisted by Brad Walsh. The second goal Midgets finish first 15 games BY SILVER SKATES This year Blyth has a Midget team. The team consists of two goalies, Mike McDonald and Mike Henry and 12 skaters: Drew Allen. Art Bos, Allen Hillis, Paul Hoggart, Larry Hunking, Jamie MacDon­ ald, Dan McDougall, Kriss Snell, Jason VanderHeyden, Keith Ver­ burg, Tim Walden and Dean Whitfield. Kurt Whitfield is their coach while Melvin Bergsma is manager and Ralph Datema, trainer. To date they have played 15 season games. They are as follows:Oct. T9,Blyth2-Clinton5; Oct. 21, Blyth 5 - Mitchell 8; Oct. 27, Seaforth 10 - Blyth 4; Oct. 28, Blyth 1 - Clinton 6; Nov. 4, Blyth 2 - Milverton 4; Nov. 8, Blyth 1 - Brussels 3; Nov. 11, Blyth 4 - Hensall 3; Nov. 19, Milverton 1 - was scored by Scott Arthur assist­ ed by Marc Bricker and Wilfred Datema. Tim Lyons scored the third goal assistedby Brad Walsh, ending the second period 3-0. In the third period Tim Lyons scored once again assisted by Shawn and Benjie Hakkers ending the game 4-0 for Blyth. On Saturday, December 12 the Atom’s played Hensail in Blyth. In the first period the visitors scored thefirstthree goals of the game with Blyth player Tim Lyons scoring with 1:14 left assisted by Shawn Hakkers and Benjie Hak­ kers. With only 47 seconds left Benjie Hakkers scored assisted by Tim Lyons ending the first period 3-2 for Hensail. In the second period Hensail had two more goals taking the lead well ahead. But in the third period Blyth camebacktoplaya tough game. Hensall scored once more at the start of the third period. At 11:25 in the third period Scott Arthur scored assisted by Marc Bricker and Wilfred Datema. At 9:48 Tim Lyons scored assisted by Benjie Hakkers. At 5:14 Benjie Hakkers scored assisted by Marc Bricker and Scott Arthur. Tim Lyons scored unassisted with 58 seconds left in the game ending in a tie 6 - 6. The game remained scoreless till near the end of the first period, until Darryl Bromley scored three goals in one shift. One set-up by Amanda Anderson. He later scor­ ed two more, on his next shift with Chris Carter picking up an assist. Michael Courtney got into the scoring act on a nice set-up from Corey Shannon. Amanda Ander­ son showed her scoring touch as she netted two goals both set-up by Michael Courtney. Wingham ’ s lone goal was scored on a break-away effort by Steve Carter. Michael Haggitt tried his skills as goalie and did a fine job. On Saturday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. the team will have a re-match with Goderich in Goderich. Brussels Sprouts romp to 17-4 win against Wallace The Brussels Sprouts were at home December 5 to play Wallace Township. Brussels played very well, com­ ing away with a 17-4 win. Corey Campbell led the scoring with six goals. Matthew Shortreed scored five goals followed by Jason Merry Christmas and All the Best to You BY LOIS McARTER The Brussels Junior Bulls were at home to the first-place Exeter Hawks on Wednesday for a rare mid-week game. It proved to be one of the best played games the team has had this season. Two of the players Brian Campbell and Kevin McArterboth scored hat-tricks. Brian Campbell opened the scoring for the Bulls just three minutes into the gameonapass from Greg Crummer and Stuart Bowman on their first power-play effort. There was 12:57 on the clock when Kevin McArter scored from Tim Fritz for Brussels’ second goal. Thenjust 12 seconds later Kevin McArter went down the ice to score unassisted to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead, in the first seven minutes of play. It was four minutes later when Exeter got on the score­ board. Greg Crummer scored unassist­ ed with 6:29 remaining to complete the scoring for the period and end the first period with Brussels holding a 4-1 lead. Five minutes of the second period had been played when Brian Campbell scored from Ron Strome for his second goal of the game. There was 11:34 on the clock when Kevin McArter completed his hat-trick on a pass from Tim Fritz as their power-play effort worked. Within 30 seconds Brian Camp­ bell got his hat-trick unassisted to give the Bulls a 7-1 lead. The team seemed to let up slightly as Exeter came up with the next three goals to narrow the gap to 7-4. Tim Fritz scored with 1:27 left in the period on a pass from Paul Robinson and Paul Edwards to complete the period with Brussels holding a 8-4 lead. Brussels claimed the only goal of Kellington and Trevor Wilson each with two goals. Clint Wilson and Mike Cooper scored on each with a lot of effort from Korey Bray, Joel Kellington, Leslie Elliott, Amber Ruttan, Darryl Dalton and Richard and Christopher Armstrong. from 523-4485 Blyth, Ont. Dinsley & Ann St., ★ Wfaanen't the third period when Bill Kerr scored his first goal of the game from Tim Fritz and gave the Bulls a sound 9-4 victory over the league’s leading team this season. Goalie Jeff McGavin had 24 shots to contend with while the Exeter goalie had 35 shots fired at hime. The team travelled to Clinton on Friday night to play the Mustangs but the home team had only six skaters and a goalie show up and the game was cancelled and the future of Clinton team is in question. Sunday afternoon had the team at home to the visiting Belmont Bombers. Belmont opened the scoring after four minutes of play for a short-handed goal and a 1-0 lead. Just 1:42 later they added a power play goal to take a 2-0 lead. With 10:28 on the clock, they added their third goal and at 1:15 they picked up a fourth goal. Tim Fritz put the Bulls on the scoreboard withjust 13 seconds remaining in the period after being set up by Ron Strome and Rob McMillan. The teams played the next 20 minutes of the game and each goalie held the opposition at bay as neither team was able to score. The goalies stopped 11 shots each in the period. Brussels came out to score early in the third period when Mike Chapman scored from Ron Strome and Tim Fritz on a power-play effort. The Bombers added their fifth goal at 13:57 and then scored a short-handed goal with 7:05 re­ maining. The remainder of the period was scoreless with the Bombers winning 6-2. The Bulls just didn’t display the same spark as they did against the Hawks on Wednesday night. Shots on the nets were quite even with the Bombers shooting 29 and the Bulls 28. The 50-50 draw on Wednesday night was won by Jim Garniss for a total of $33. Sunday afternoon’s draw was shared by Dianne Huether and Gary Pipe for $40. The lottery draw for $50 was won by the Zurich survey crew. Saturday night will have Sea­ forth in town for an 8 p.m. game. Sunday afternoon will have Mit­ chell in town for a 2 p.m. start.
