HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1987-12-16, Page 14A special castle for special kids was constructed by the Grade 1 students in Mrs. Battye’s class at Blyth Public School this week, to be sent to the children on the seventh floor of the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario in London when student Jon Sanderson goes for therapy on Thursday. The candy castle was planned and built by f front row, from left] Mary Beth Brigham, Daniel Sauve, Tammy Walker, Angie Walden and Sara McNichol; [second row] Jud Hakkers, Bradley Mason, Shawna Stryker and Leanne Haggitt; [third row] Michelle Hallahan, Aaron Irving, Justin Sauve, Charlene Tisseur, Brent Sauve and Jon Sanderson; [back row] Adam Blair, Allan Gibbons, Joey Schmidt, Jon Cucksey, Nathan Hubbard and Jenny Shropshire. FIN AL RESULTS by John Ramirez and Stephanie Lentz For the last several weeks, the Grades 3, 4, 5, have been playing Newcomb Ball. Newcomb Ball consists of throwing a ball over a net and catching it, then returning it. The winner of the championship game was Team No. 4. The senior division (6, 7, 8) have also been playing an intramural Volleyball. The winners of that tournament were the Meddskies. GRADE ONE ACTIVITIES hv Debbie Logue On Thursday, Dcvcmher 10, the grade ones started to make a graham wafer, castle topped with icing and candies. Johnathan Sanderson, a student in grade 1, is going to be taking it to the Children’s Hospital in London, where he received treatments, as a Christmas treat for the young patients there. WINT ARIO CAME TO BLYTH by Michelle Nesbit and Sarah Allen , On Thursday, December 10, Wintario came to Blyth. The show was held at the Blyth Memorial Hall. The hosts, as you all know were Faye Dance and co-host was Greg Beresford. There was enter­ tainment by Anne Coulter and Ron Greidanus who played the piano and trumpet. Grade 3 of Blyth Public School sang three songs. Then there was a gymnastic display by Danielle McDougall, Michelle Nesbit, Newcomb ball season ends Tammi Medd, Elisha Courtney ahd Ashley Howson, all of B.P.S. All the proceeds will go to the Blyth Festival’s Building Cam­ paign. HOBBY AND CRAFT SHOW AT BLYTH P.S. by Tina Burkholder and Kimberly Ferguson Mrs. Webster, the school librar­ ian, asked the grade five class to make a homemade Christmas gift and bring it to school for a Craft Display on December 9. The students made things like: shelves, a pinball game, cakes, cookies, soap, candles and many others. The display was from 12:30 to 3:30. All the students at B.P.S. visited the display during the day. The grade five class received a letter, written by the grade ones, telling them which gifts in the display they liked the most. Tom Black heads School Fair The annual meeting of the Belgrave, Blyth and Brussels School Fair was held on Tuesday, December 8 in the Belgrave arena. The election of officers was directed by Murray Vincent and the new officers are: Past Presi­ dent, Mr. Bruce Campbell; Presi­ dent, Mr. Ken Ramsey; First Vice President, Mr. Tom Black; Second Vice President, Mr. Ron McBur- ney; Secretary, Mrs. Karen Cook. Fair date for next year was set for Wednesday, September 14. The next meeting will be held on January 19, 1988 in the Belgrave arena.
