McKillop council wants nominations for awards McKillop township council a- greed at its December 1 meeting to seek nominees for the “Celebra­ tion 88“ awards program. Council agreed to place adver­ tisements in area newspapers seeking nominees for the program which rewards local volunteers as part ofthe celebrations for the 1988 Winter Olympics. An advertise­ ment with a nomination form is in this issue of The Citizen. In other business council author­ ized Mosey and Mosey Insurance Agency Ltd. to complete a full review and analysis ofthe town­ ship’s employee benefit program. Tom Prout, general manager of the Ausable-Bayfield Conserva­ tion Authority explained the grant structure for Ontario Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Agriculture and Food grants for soil erosion and manure storage. McKillop council had joined Hul- lett council earlier in a request to know why there was a $5,000 grant available for manure storage facili­ ties in the Ausable portion of the Conservation Authority but not on the Bayfield river system. Mr. Prout explained that through the MOE’s Beach Strategy program the grant is available for water­ sheds that had beaches closed in 1983 because of high bacteria counts. The Grand Bend beach, on the Ausable river was closed but beaches at Bayfield weren’t. Appointments for various boards were made for the coming year. Reeve Marie Hicknell will represent the township on the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority. Lome Glanville will be Grey endorses resolution Grey Township Council held its regular meeting on December 7. Council endorsed a resolution from the Township of Peel with respect to requesting the Province of Ontario to implement legislation concerning the manufacturing, use and distribution on non-biode- gradable and non-recyclable ma­ terials. Many packaging methods and fast food establishments con­ tribute many tonnes of this type of waste to municipal landfill sites each year. Council passed by-laws esta­ blishing $10.00 fees for tax and zoning certificates and a by-law for a tile drain debenture amounting to $69,800.00 In other business, Council auth­ orized payment of general ac­ counts totalling $69,119.65, road accounts totalling $26,861.34 and drain accounts totalling $10,647.28 The next regular meeting of Council is scheduled for December 21 at 9:30 a.m. Former Morris resident dies at Wingham GEORGE EDWIN NOBLE George Edwin Noble of Gorrie and formerly of Morris Township died Dec. 9, 1987 at Wingham and District Hospital. He was 75 years of age. He was born in East Wawanosh township and married the former Edith Jean Adams, who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Don of Blyth and Ken at home and one daughter, Lois, Mrs. Harry Van Der Linden, of London and by five grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Ruth Fisher of Clinton also survives. He was predeceased bv one sister and four brothers. The funeral service took place Dec. 12, 1987 from the Gorrie Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes with Rev. D. Pugh officiat­ ing. Interment was in Blyth Union Cemetery. the representative on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority. Brian Campbell will sit on the Seaforth Community Hospital Board and Bill Siemon on the Blyth District Fire Area Board. Reeve Hicknell will sit on the Seaforth Fire Area Board. Lome Glanville and Ken Campbell will be on the Seaforth and District Community Centres Committee of Manage­ ment. A by-law setting the renumera­ tion for the councillors was approv­ ed. Council voted not to give its consent to the application of Steven Dennis, Lot 14, concession 13S for the severance of 216,000 for rural residential purposes since the SECOND LAST MINUTE GIFT SUGGESTIONS! Ross and Associates Ltd. to prepare a study on the Grieve’s bridge, concession 4/5, lot 25. Debentures for $67,300 for the construction of drains were offered for sale to the Treasurer of Ontario. Council received a letter from the Huron County Federation of Agri­ culture requesting a meeting and asked clerk Marion McClure to set up a meeting. Council approved a grant of $50 to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. General accounts of $80,828.20 and road accounts of $9,995.18 were approved for pay­ ment.
