Nineteen years of service were rewarded at the meeting of the Blyth and District Community Centre Board
on Monday night when Amy McCrea was presented with a gift on her retirement as secretary-treasurer of
the board. Presenting the gift were Frank Szusz [left] chairman of the board and Bill Howson, Blyth village
council representative on the board.

December 13. The Carol Service is

followed by a delicious pot luck
dinner.
Blyth Swinging Seniors
entertain Huronview residents
The Swinging Seniors of Blyth
journeyed to Huronview on Wed
nesday, December 9 to entertain
the residents and to celebrate with
all who have December birthdays.
John Hesselwood, president,
greeted everyone and read out
their names and all sang “Happy
Birthday.’’ A variety program
followed, beginning with a lively
Blyth Lions host
sing-song led by Jim Lawrie. A
quartette of four men, Millar
Richmond, Shane Snell, Lloyd
Walden and Harvey McDowell
with Ella Richmond at the piano
sang two numbers. Aubrey Toll,
accompanied by Marjorie McDou
gall, entertained with several
songs. Jim McCall, with Lloyd
Walden and the piano, played
family Christmas party
several lively numbers on the
violin followed by a mouth organ
band with Millar Richmond, Lloyd
Walden, Harvey McDowell and
Jim Lawrie.
Two selections on the mandolin
were played by Harvey Meo well
with Lloyd Walden at the piano.
This ended about an hour’s
program and the Blyth Seniors
served a lovely lunch to the
residents. Laura Saundercock, a
resident of Huronview thanked
Blyth for the fine entertainment
and lunch.
The Blyth Lions Club held its
family Christmas Party on Tues
day, December 8. Seventy-five
Lions, ladies, children and guests
were served a turkey supper by the
Blyth Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
The Lions Christmas supper and
dance on Saturday, December 12
was very successful. Tickets for the
Christmas dance on Saturday,
December 19 and New Year’s Eve
dance on Thursday, December 31
are still available from Lions
Gerald Kerr or Don Stewart.
The Blyth Lions Santa Claus Day
was again a big success. On
Saturday, December 5 approxi
mately 225 children visited with
Santa and received a bag of candy,
compliments of the Blyth Lions
Club.
The winners of the Lions Satur
day night hockey draws were:
November 28, John Battye; De
cember 5, Murray Hamm; and
December 12, Kirk Stewart.
The next meeting of the Blyth
LionsClubisThursday, January 14
at the Blyth Memorial Hall.
Oops! Our goof
In an article in last week’s
Citizen regarding the Celebra
tion *88 certificates to honour
community athletes and volun
teers it was stated that up to 50
certificates can be given out. It
should have read that up to one
certificate for every 50 people of
the municipalities population
can be given out.
In a report from Huron
County Council it was stated
that county councillors were to
receive a car allowance of $80
per month plus 20 cents per
kilometer. It is not county
councillors but county em
ployees required to have a car,
who receive the car allowance.
We regret these erros and
any embarrassment these may
have caused.

weekly euchre party at Blyth
Memorial Hall Dec. 7. Mary
Shobbrook was the high lady and Vi
Howes showed the men how to do
it, capturing the top men’s prize
while playing as a man. Pearl
Bromley and Ed Brooks took the
low prizes. Esther Moffat and Bert
Daer had the most lone hands. Ann
Giousher won the special prize.
Mary Walden and Harvey Mc
Dowell had the high scores at the
lost heir card party on Wednesday
night. Edythe Snell and Jim
McCall had the low scores. Ella
Richmond and Margaret Nesbit
won the special prizes. Dec. 16 will
be the last lost heir party until
January 6.
The Blyth Festival Singers
performed at St. Mark’s Lutheran
The choir received a very warm
welcome and it was a pleasure to
sing in such a lovely church and a
most receptive audience.
