Blyth Swinging Seniors entertained by musicians The Blyth Swinging Seniors held their November meeting in the Memorial Hall. The opening sing song with Ruby Philp at the piano consisted of Christmas songs. “Happy Birthday’’ wassungto Mary Walden, Ida Procter, Gra eme McDowell and Jim McCall. President John Hesselwood was appointed the representative on the Blyth Recreational Committee. Nora Kelly gave her treasurer’s report. Arrangements were made to help with the birthday party at Huronview on December 9. John mentioned that four members attended a meeting at Huronview about its future. The program began with some lively musical numbers with Jim McCall playing the violin and Lloyd Walden the piano. Following this Harv McDowell took members by means of picturesand commentary on a very interesting trip which he and Feme had to California. The meeting closed with a delicious lunch served by the lunch commit tee. There will be no meeting in December. Instead it will be on January 6 beginning with a pot luck dinner at 12 noon. FLOWERING CRABAPPLE TREES People mondville United Church where lunch was served. Mae Badley, Alma Madill and Pat Sparling, via Nicholson bus lines attended last Sunday after noon, the widely acclaimed “The Living Christmas Tree’’ service at the Peoples’ Church, Toronto. Congratulations to Jennifer Pierce on her 4th birthday on December 16, from Mom, Dad and Brendan. A number of Blyth and Londes- Helmut Norman Garrett, John Blake, Ruby Philp, Russell Wilson and Melda McElroy attended the funeral service of the late Dr. Charles Toll in the Whitney funeral home in Seaforth last Sunday afternoon. Dr. Toll, a former Blyth dentist and band leader, had made all arrangements for his funeral quite a few years ago and these were carried out but for two exceptions. Jamie Sims of London, a band member, because of a cold, could not sing a solo. Instead, the family requested him to give an eulogy, that charges are pending. Both Mr. Earl Caldwell, because of ill health, was unable to act as pallbearer. George Cowan of Chatham, presently completing a term as minister at Park View United Church, Stratford, conduc ted the service and sang a solo. A large number of band mem bers in uniform, and led by Harry Hoffman of Dashwood played four selections during the service. One was a favourite march of Dr. Toll’s; another, “It Came Upon The Midnight Clear’’. Daughter Jill Farrugia of Cam bridge read a poem by Lord Tennyson - Ulysses, a fitting tribute to her 91 year old father. The large crowd, following the funeral, assembled at the Eg- boro area students had prominent parts in the Christmas Concert presentedby theCentral Huron Secondary School Dec. 2. Julie Howson and Ron Grei- danus performed Trumpet and piano solos with the school’s stage band. Tamara Bearss performed a solo with the music 1G class band. Ruth Vincent of Londesboro and Ron Walker of RR 3, Blyth were among the staff taking part in the staff band selections. Christina Roulston of RR 3, Blyth took part in a duet as part of the concert choir. Inconjunctionwiththe Village Tree Planting Program, Council are planting Flowering Crab-Apple Trees next April. Anyone wishing to purchase a tree ortrees at $19.00 each, please contact the Village Clerk at 523-4545 by December 15th, 1987. VILLAGE OF BLYTH COUNCIL. In an earlier mishap, Jason C. Devlin, 16, of RR 2, Blyth, and two passengers in his car, 17-year-old Steven Blake of RR 2, Brussels, and 15-year-old Lori Willie of Brussels, received minor injuries when the vehicle owned by Mr. Devlin’s father failed to negotiate a turn in Turnberry Township on November 29. Mr. Devlin’s car left the road and struck several trees before coming to rest, say OPP. Damage is estimated at $3,000. All three youths were taken by ambulance to Wingham and District Hospital, treated and released.
