Walkerburn Club holds bazaar On November 24 the Walker­ burn Club met at the home of Mrs. Elliott Lapp. Mrs. Leonard Archambault opened the meeting with a reading “Let There be Peace on Earth’’. The minutes ofthe last meeting were read by the secretary. Due to the inclement weather on Novem­ ber 21 aritlces left from the Vanastra Bazaar were to be sold at Auburn library on Saturday, Nov­ ember 28. A dicsussion about money on hand followed and the suggestion to save for a wheel chair for Huronview was well received but no final decision made. The January meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Penfound. Mrs. J. Verwey and Mrs. Roy Daer will be the program committee and Mrs. R. Archambault and Mrs. Tom Cunningham, the lunch committee. The meeting was turned over to theTupperware representative whodisplayedherwares. Mem­ bers and guests made their purchases. Tupperware draw gifts were won by Mrs. I. Moore and Mrs. H. Hunking. The hostess Mrs. Lapp presented with a gift. The Club draw donated by Mrs. Len Ar­ chambault was won by Mrs. Garth McClinchey. A lunch and social gathering closed the afternoon meeting. was Christmas Tree tradition studied by UCW The general meeting of the Auburn U.C.W. was held at the church on November 25 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Jake Middelkamp opened the meeting and the hymn, “God who touchest Earth with Beauty” with Mrs. Gordon Gross the pianist. Mrs. Barry Millian gave the meditation on “Treep” and .how they remind us of God. She spoke on various trees which grow and produce fruit according to God’s plan. A Christian also by word and work and bear fruit in their daily use. The scripture from Galations 5 was read by Mrs. Middelkamp and an appropriate reading “Scatter Seeds of Kindness” given. Various tropical fruits, mangoes, papayas and sharon fruit were shown and a poster of an evergreen tree was displayed and decorated with peace, joy, faith, etc. The story of the origin of the Christmas tree in 1000 AD was given and the lovely hymn, “O Christmas Tree” was sung. Mrs. Middelkamp closed the worship with prayer. Mrs. Dana Bean conducted the business opening with a reading “O Candle”. The secretary and treasurer gave their reports. Mrs. Bean gave the report on the previous votes - there will be only one unit in 1988. Until the end of this year, church cleaning Seniors attend meeting Four delegates of the Auburn Silver Tops attended the meeting of the Senior Care Facility Commit - remains the same. Four Poinsettias are to be purchased for the church. The executive will be in charge of the Christmas dinner on December 16 at 12 o’clock. Bring your husband or a guest. Meat will be purchased and potatoes supplied. Otherwise the meal will be pot luck. The collection will be a gift to the Canadian Blind Missions. The convenors of the various groups gave their yearly reports. Mrs. Bean gave the list of officers nominated for election and Mrs. Jack Armstrong declared the officers elected. Mrs. Dana Bean gave the benediction and lunch wasservedbyUnitland a social half hour enjoyed. Silvertops celebrate Christmas The Auburn Silver Tops met on Wednesday afternoon November 18 starting with a pot luck dinner at 12 o’clock. Following the delicious meal the President Kay Lapp conducted a short business meet­ ing. Elliott Lapp then showed a film entitled * * Christmas In Germany’ ’. Aubrey Toll of RR 3, Blyth entertained with several solos accompanied by his sister Marjorie McDougall. The afternoon ended with a few tables of cards and the next meeting will be in January. A surprise 40th wedding anni­ versary dinner was hosted by Jack and Elva Armstrong of RR 2, Auburn on Friday evening in honourof her brother and sister-in- law, Harold and Margaret Carter of 94 Montcalm St., Goderich. Guests attending were their daughter and son-in-law Barb and Doug, Jason and Karen Warwick of Powasson Ontario; Carol and Gerald McDowell, RR 1, Belgrave; Fred, Ruth, Lori Lynn and John Armstrong of RR 2, Auburn. Congratulatory phone calls were received from their son and daughter-in-law Bob, Louise and Rodney Pitbado of Cornwall On­ tario, and from sisters Irene Wiley and Clarissa Price of Vancouver, B.C. Card of congratulations were opened from Cliff and Irene Carter, Joe and Susan Hampson who were unable to attend. A television and a chiming wall clock were presented to the couple. Mary RoHinson celebrates 99th birthday Mr. William Anderson of New­ market is visiting with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson for a few days. Mrs. Mary Rollison and son Murray returned home from Tor­ onto after spending a couple of weeks with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Weston. While there she celebrat­ ed her 99th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Rae Ney of Windsor visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hallam visited on Sunday with his mother Mrs. Hallamand brother Roy of Lucknow.
