The 20-foot long treat was the prize for the Grade 7 class at the school, in recognition of their prowess in selling more magazine subscriptions than any other class during a recent sales campaign. Fifty-five members enjoyed a hot turkey dinner and Christmas pudd­ ing and all the trimmings at 12 noon catered to by W.I. ladies. President Audrey Thompson welcomed all with a Christmas reading. O Canada was sung with Genevieve Allen at the piano. The blessing was asked by Clare Vincent. A toast was proposed to the ladies. Margaret Good thanked the ladies for the meal. Thanks were accepted by Doreen Carter, after the tables were cleared. Clara Riley introduced Peter Snell, music teacher at Hullett Central Public School. He intro­ duced 11 pupils who entertained with flute music, pianos solos, step dancing, duets and Christmas numbers. The draw is a bread box made and donated by Lome Hunking. There were three draws: first prize, bread box, won by Michael Lyons; second prize, basket of fruit, won by Beth Knox and third, a plant, won by George Hoggart. Ten tables of cards were played. She said, “See all January 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the hall and thanks to all.” - Advent marked at Londesboro The first Sunday of Advent was held on Sunday at the Londesboro United Church. Welcoming was Berty Lyon. The ushers were Shannon Duizer, Kim Salverda, Paul Jewitt and Richard Burgsma. Rev. Snihurwelcomedall and gave the call to worship and the announcements. With them this morning was Mr. Don Langford, a former missionary of the United Church, now mission consultant for London Conference. Next Sunday will be White Gift Sunday. Bring your gifts for collection. White Gifts will be given to the Huron Christmas Bureau for dis­ tribution to the needy. On Decem­ ber 13 there will be a carol-sing before church. During the carol­ sing family oictures will be eollert- ed to add to the family Christmas tree. The lighting of the first advent, the candle of Mary was done by Helen and Norman Alexander. The children’s song was “Jesus bids us shine”. The story was about Jesus’ birth. The junior teachers were Shelly Merner and Pam Hoggart. The scripture reading was from Isaiah and the lesson was from Matthew, read by Don Langford. Thesermonwas given by Don Langford telling what it is like to live in Ethiopia and Zambia, and to share our food. We are rich and powerful. The mission of Christ begins and ends with us. He is a grandson for Frank and Dorothy Johnston and a great- grandson for Bob and Bertha Johnston. Weekend visitors with Allen and Ruth Shaddick were Mr. Bob Rushby and Gregory of Kitchener, Jeffrey Shaddick, Stephen, Danny and Krystal of London, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Moore of Scarborough and Lloy and Dirk Garlichs of Waterloo. Sympathy is extended to Helen and Reg Lawson and family on the death of her father John Turner from Huronview in Clinton Hospi­ tal on November 28at age 88 years.
