Phone 887-9487 Former resident Grace Procter dies at Ingersoll GRACEPROCTER Grace Procter of Ingersoll and formerly of Belgrave died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1987 at Alexandria Hospi­ tal, Ingersoll after a short illness. She was born 88 years ago in Morris township, the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith Curtis. She was educated in Bluevale. She married Harold Procter in Bluevale on May 23, 1928. The couple farmed on the third line of Morris until they retired to Belgrave in the fall of 1962. Mrs. Procter lived in Belgrave until the death of her husband in 1977 when she moved to Ingersoll to live with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. John Spivey. For the last five and a half years she was a resident in Oxford Regional Nursing Home, Ingersoll. She was a member of Knox United Church, Belgrave. One sister, Mrs. Vietta McKee of Montreal, P.Q. also survives. She was predeceased by one sister Margaret Curtis in September 1986. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Spivey of Ingersoll and by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One daugh­ ter predeceased her in infancy. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1987 from the McBurney Funeral Home, Wing­ ham with Rev. John G. Roberts officiating. Burial was in Brandon Cemetery. Children’s Sunday, November 14 was selected in Knox United to administer the Sacrament of Bap­ tism to Amy Alisha Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook. Dennis Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Procter and Kyle Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Procter. Water from the River Jordan in Palestine supplied by Kyle and Dennis’ grandmother, Mrs. Ross Procter, was used in the baptism service. This added special signifi­ cance. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the service. The minister chose scripture passages from St. Mark 10 and Acts2as the basis for his message. Mrs. Sarah Anderson was in charge of the meeting and used Isaah 2: 4 for the Call to Worship. Minutes and Treasurer’s reports were given. There was some discussion as to the Christmas meeting and Mrs. Glenn Coultes was to contact the nursing homes to find out if they would like our Christmas meeting held in one of them. Mrs. Glenn Coultes read the article “Remembrance Day’’ and what does it mean to us who were born since or haven’t any recollec­ tion of the second world war over 40 years ago and prayer for freedom and peace. Following the singing of “Let there be peace on Earth’’. Mrs. Coultes gave the poem, “Sermons we see.” Lila Higgins 92 years old Belgrave friends extend congra­ tulations to Mrs. Lila Higgins of Brookhaven Nursing Home, Wing­ ham, who is celebrating her 92nd birthday November 18. Dorothy Telfer of Weston spent a few days last week at the home of Mrs. Sarah Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Hayterof Varna visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson. Mrs. Jennie Walsh, formerly of Belgrave and Bray Lodge Wing­ ham, is now a resident of Country Road Lodge, RR 3, Lucknow. seated in the central front pews, “What is baptism all about?’’ Then Mr. Roberts used his Cana­ dian Citizenship Certificate to illustrate and explain baptism. Baptism is becoming a member of the church. A citizen becomes a member of his country in this instance Canada. A man does not automaticallybecomeacitizen. John Roberts had to decide; so it is with baptism. A decision to become a member of the church must be made. A citizen must attend a special court and take the oath of allegiance to his country. Parents take vows to God and the church. A new citizen trusts that Canada will give certain rights to him. A man Mrs. Janisa Coultes read items of Remembrance and the Mission with the homeless. Who are these? A survey showed that no one w ants to be on the streets, but some have been there as long as five years, someduetoalcohol and some to marriagebreakdown. The Fred Victor Mission for men has made some changes and have some apartments available for men who use them for a permanent home. They are now building a home for women. “O God our help in ages past” was sung. When parents make baptismal vows they trust God to give them something; but parents must lend their support to the church.
