This served as a solemn reminder of lives sacrificed for our freedom and the debt of gratitude we owe. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the service, using the order of service set forth in the Welsh Service Book. Following the Prayer of Invocation the congregation rose toobserveaone minute’s silence in memory of the soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice. The scripture reading from St. John 15: 13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” formed the basis for the minister’s message. The choir sang the anthem ‘ ‘The Lord Is My Shepherd” with organ accompaniment by Mrs. George Procter. Rev. Roberts painted a word picture of the “Eleven o’clock two-minute observance of remem brance in Wales”. It is always an impressive moment when the town clocks tolls eleven on November 11. Everyone and everything ceasestomove. Allcommotion- the workers, streetwalkers, farm ers, buses, cars, come to a complete stand still. There is dead silence everywhere for two min utes. New phone book out There is an important ingredient in the death of Jesus. He said, “I have called your friends.” When we consider that those soldiers died for their friends, you and me, we become personalized. Men from all the Allied Countries who died counted each of us friends. They died for you. They died for me. They placed a burden on our shoulders, the opportunity to do something. They opened the door for you and me; calling “Do something,” he said. To conclude the impressive service, Mr. Roberts read a letter written in Belgium by Sister Mary Josephine to the relatives of a deceased soldier. It enclosed his photo and details of the hero’s death. He was only one of 100,000 such incidents. He died for his friends, for us. In like manner Jesus died for us whom He calls friends and lays responsibility on our shoulders, “Do Something.” c A color photograph of the Little Madawaska River in the heart of Algonquin Park, as it looks in early spring, is on the cover of the 1987 telephone directory for London, St. Thomas and surrounding area. Some 270,000 copies of the directory willbe delivered from November 10 to November 27, said Howie Atkinson, local Bell Canada Manager. “Come in out of the cold!”^& INDOOR SHOWROOM •1985 G.M.C. H.D.
