Victoria Hospital seeks funding BY CHRIS LAWS A delegation representing Vic toria Hospital corporation in Lon don, spoke to members of Huron County Council on Thursday, November 5, to request that $25,000 in fundi ng be provided, over the next five years, to help expand the facility. John Robinson spoke on behalf of the delegation, and praised Huron County for having five excellent general hospitals. He added that only half of the $170 million that is required to construct the new Victoria Hospital complex has been earned sofar, and without county and public money, the hospital will not be able to survive. Robinson stated that they have already received donations from the City of London ($3 million), Middlesex County ($372,000), and Elgin County ($50,000). He added that Victoria Hospital has many specialties that the county hospi tals don’t have, and in order to get the same treatment, one would have to “suffer through the trauma involved in getting treatment in Toronto.” Mr. Robinson’s final argument pointed to the 900 people from Huron County last year who were admitted to Victoria Hospital as in-patients. He also stated that there were an additional 500 Huron County residents who received treatment but were not admitted. Usborne Township Reeve, Ger ry Prout, asked the delegation about a report that he had either seen on CFPL-TV, or read in The London Free Press, about Victoria Hospital not admitting people outside of the City of London. Robinson answered Prout by say ing that he had not heard the report, and that it was not true. Exeter Reeve Bill Mickle asked the delegation if there would be any duplication of services that are currently offered in London’s other two hospitals with the expansion, to which he was told there would not be.
