Mary Huether honoured at teachers' banquet Teacher Mary Huether, left, who retired from Brussels Public School last J une after more than 30 years of teaching in the Brussels area, was presented with a special gift last Wednesday in recognition of her long service. Making the presentation at the annual Fall Banquet of the Huron Women Teachers’ Association in Brussels was Marie Parsons of Grey Central Public School, president of the HWTA. A teacher who served for more than 30 years in the Brussels area was among the three retired teachers who were given special recognition at the Huron Women Teachers’ Association’s Fall Ban­ quet in Brussels last Wednesday. Mary Huether, who retired from Brussels Public School last spring, was presented with a special gift by Marie Parsons, HFTA president, » and congratulated by Elaine Cline, president of the Federation of Women Teachers’ Associations of Ontario(FWTAO),whowasthe guest speaker at the dinner. Similarly honoured were Mary Bcre, who retired from Brookside Public School last June; and Marg Rogerson, who retired from Clin­ ton Public School. Catherine MacDonald, who teaches at Wingham Public School, was one of 11 women teachers presen ted with a pin in recognition of their 25 or more years of service as members of the teaching profession. Jean Under­ wood of Howick Central Public School was among the 25-year teachers, but was unable to be present at the ceremony. Among the 17 new teachers welcomed into the HWTA during the evening with the presentation of their pins, certificates and a single carnation, were Karen Webster of Blyth Public School; Sandra Simpson of East Wawa- nosh Public School; Deborah Ben­ nett of Howick Central Public School; and Jennifer Balsdon of Turnberry Central Public School. Art Clark, chairman of the Huron County Board of Education and Bob Allen, huron County director of education, spoke briefly following the dinner. /A. ' Brussels Lodge installs officers at ceremony District Deputy Grand Master Eric Mansfield and staff installed the 1987-88 officers of the Western Star Lodge #149 in Brussels on October 8. Installed at the ceremony were Noble Grand William Young; Vice Grand John Brown; Recording Secretary Gord Stephenson; Fin­ ancial Secretary Dave Miller; Treasurer J. L. McCutcheon; and Warden Ralph Pearson. Also taking up their new duties were Conductor Dave McCut­ cheon; Outside Guard Robert Richmond; Inside Guard J. A. McCutcheon; Right Supporter of Noble Grand Mel McCutcheon; Left Supporter Doug Hemingway; Right Scene Supporter James Bowman; Left Scene Supporter George Inglis; Chaplain Robert Fraser; Colour Bearer Tom Millar; and Musician Alf Nichol. The District Deputy Grand Master banquet will be held in Hensall on November 19. The IOOF Chicken Supper willbe held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre at 7 p.m. on November 17. Plans are being made for the opening of the new Lodge Hall in Brussels. BARGAIN PRICED AT Couple to live in Wingham BROPHY-MACHAN Beautiful new autumn shades of jade green and fuchsia brightened Sacred Heart Church, Teeswater, at 5:30 on Sept. 12, when marriage vows were exchanged by Vickie Machan of Brussels and Bill Brophy of Wingham. Rev. Stan Soltysik heard the couple’s vows and pronounced them husband and wife. Janet Brophy was organist and vocal numbers were provided by Pat Gaunt, Louise Bloemberg and Diane English. White and fuchsia flowers with fuchsia candles form­ ed the setting for the double-ring ceremony. Vickie is the daughter of Doug and Florence Machan of Brussels and Bill’s parents are Desmond and Norma Brophy of Wingham. The bride’s father gave her in marriage. The bride wore her mother’s wedding dress, a cock­ tail-length, full-skirted gown with layers of lace adorning the skirt, spaghetti straps and lace over­ jacket. A halo headpiece held her fingertip veil and she carried a bouquet of jade green orchids and stephanotis, accented with touch­ es of greenery. Her attendants wore jade green cocktail-length dresses styled with v\ listline cummberbunds and lace trim at the necklines and sleeves. Matron of honour was Linda McDonald of Walton, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids were Andrea Coultesand Cathy Shiell of Kitchener and Shelley Draper, Brussels, all friends of the bride. The attendants carried bouquets of fuchsia orchids surrounded by baby’s breath. The flower girl. Lesley Pepper of Brussels, friend of the bride, wore a jade green cocktail-length dress with white lace trim. Serving as best man was Joe White of Walkerton, cousin of the groom. Guests were ushered by Paul Brophy, brother of the groom, and Randy Clarke, friend of the groom of Wingham and Paul Machan, brother of the bride, of Brussels. Fuchsia and green streamers and an arch of helium balloons in metallic green and silver decorated Brussels, Morris and Grey Com­ munity Centre for the reception. Receiving guests was the bride’s mother who wore a yellow satin brocade two piece dress styled with V-neckline, crossover bodice, waistline peplum and straight skirt. She was assisted by the groom’s mother who chose a red satin brocade dress with pleated skirt falling from a dropped Mr. and Mrs. Brophy are residing in Wingham following a wedding trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto. Both are graduates of Lougheed Business College. The bride is employed by Keil Insur­ ance Brokers and the groom by Western Foundry, both in Wing­ ham. Guests attended the wedding from Orangeville, Kitchener, Elmira, Walkerton, Teeswater, Blyth, Toronto and London.
