It was a rough
week for the Bulls
BY LOIS McARTER
The Brussels Junior D Hockey
Club was at home to the Thames-
ford Trojans on Tuesday night, in
what proved to be an excellent
game of hockey.
The Bulls opened the scoring at
the 13.08 mark when Tim Dillow
picked up his first goal of the
season on a pass from Mike
Chapman.
Thamesford retaliated in just 12
seconds to tie the score at one and
finished the period at 1-1 tie.
Brussels scored after four min
utes of play in the second period,
when Mike Vincent beat the goalie
assisted by Ron Strome and Kevin
McArter.
Thamesford tied the score again
at the mid-way point of the period.
There was 6:39 remaining when
Tim Fritz and Doug Taylor com
bined to put the Bulls ahead once
more. But Thamesford continued
to fight back and scored two goals
at 2:19 and 1:38 to close the period
with a one goal lead.
The Bulls made a power play
effort pay off when Brian Campbell
scored from Kevin McArter and
Doug Taylor to tie the score once
more. Thamesford took thelead
again at the 11:19 mark of the
period.
There was just 13 seconds
remaining on the clock when Mike
Chapman scored from Brian
Campbell and Tim Fritz to salvage
a 5.5 tie in the game.
It was great to note that the
referee commended both teams on
being well disciplined and a
pleasure to officiate. Let’s pass the
credit a little farther and note that
the officiating makes all the
difference in the world and should
also be praised for a job well done.
It is appreciated by both players
and spectators.
BULLS LOSE 3-1
The Bulls returned to Thames
ford on Friday night for a return
game. They encountered another
good game of hockey but came up
with only one goal for their night’s
efforts.
It came in the first period when
Bob McMellan, Bill Haines and Stu

Blyth
Oldtimers
begin play
On October 19, the Blyth
Oldtimers took the ice for their first
exhibition game of the season
againsttheChristian Reformed
Church Bisons.
The game was to be a warm up
game to prepare the Blyth Old-
timers who were to meet the
a
powerhodse in the oldtimer hockey
league on Friday, October 23.
It only took the oldtimers a short
time to realize that one of the
reasons they were oldtimers was
that they had lost some of that
youthful speed which was still in
the possession of the younger
Bisons. The game in general was a
hard fought contest coming out
very closely on the score board. So
close in fact that it was uncertain as
to who was the winner as it
appeared that no one kept the
score. However, as this contest
was in fun and practice for both of
the participating teams it proved to
be entertaining.
On October 23, Blyth Oldtimers
took the ice against the powerful
team from Monkton. This game
saw good close hockey played by
both teams through the hour and a
half time limit. Some strong play
was shown by Quipp and Beurman
of the Monkton team with some
equally good plays by Doug
Scrimgeour and Bruce Howson,
however, when the game was over
the final tally was in favour of
Monkton 11-8.
Blyth’s next game will be
October 30 at 8 p.m. in Hensail
againstthe Hensall Oldtimers. It is
understood that in the near future
when the Blyth Oldtimers travel
out of town in search of fame and
fortune, well fame at any rate, they
will be known as the Radford
Overloads.

“A FRIEND OF \J THE FAMILY SINCE 1889”
Brussels Bulls goalie Jeff McGavin watches, relieved, as the puck whizzes past the post during a game
with Exeter Hawks Sunday night. The Bulls weren’t always so lucky however as Exeter romped to a 8-2
win.
