Phone 526-7589 Citizenship topic at Auburn Wi meeting The monthly meeting of the Auburn Women’s Institute was held at the Auburn Community Hall on October 20. The hall was decorated for Autumn and also Halloween. The topic was Citizenship and World Affairs with convenors Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Tina Empey were in charge. The president Mrs. Len Ar­ chambault opened the meeting with a poem “Indian Summer” and welcomed members and guests. The meeting opened with Ode. Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada. The minutes, correspondence and treasurer’s report was given by the secretary Mrs. Robert Peck and approved and dealt with. The card report was given by Marion Haggitt in the absence of Lillian Letherland. Mrs. Don Haines read humourous quotes from the Alma­ nac and read two poems entitled “Self Destruct” and “Hugs”. She also had a contest on naming the couple on the stage (Halloween male and female dummys). Jean Plaetzer had the best names “Lazy Joe and Slim Jane” and received a prize. Mrs. Tom Jardin talked on a display on Citizenship, Coat of Arms, spoons, plates, etc. of other Knox United to hear 4-part countries. This was an interesting display. She then introduced Ethel Ball who showed slides of her trip to Alaska and the Yukon. She was thanked by Tina Empey. Roll call was answered by “Bring an article made in another country”. There were 14 members and three guests present. The meeting closed with Queen andGrace.Lunchwasservedby the convenors Lois Haines and Betty Archambault. Prizes were won by Amy Barth for closest birthday, Tina Empey for lucky serviette, all outside work done, Mrs. Carne and a social half hour was enjoyed. The North Huron 4-H Vet Club held its achievement day and annual banquet for members and their families at Snell’s Hall in Westfield on Friday. Awards were presented to the top members of the club in recognition of the work they have accomplished over the past season. Winners were [from left]: Angela VandenElzen, RR 1, Clinton, Top Senior; Karen Bakker, RR 3, Auburn, Best Record Book and Project; Tanya Boonstoppel, RR 1, Auburn, Top Junior and Members’ Choice Award. Presenting the awards is Dr. Lavern Clark, Club Leader. Leader Jim Blake was unable to be present. sermon Knox United Church service be­ gan with a hymn-sing. Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the service and Lori Millian was organist. It was International Peace Sunday. The call to worship was read alternately followed by the hymn, “Praise Him, Praise Him.” The prayer of approach was read followed by the Lord’s Prayer. The announcements were given. The Senior Choir sang, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye”. The hymn, * ‘ What a Friend we have in Jesus” was sung. The minister read the scriptures followed by the prayer chorus. The minister’s sermon was entitled “God’s Peace Makers”. The offering was received by Murray Rollison and Laurence Plaetzer and dedicated. The hymn, “Now Thank we all our God” was sung. Rev. Smhur pronounced the Benediction followed by the Bene­ diction Response, “Lord We Pray.” Next Sunday begins a four-part sermon series entitled “Questions People Ask”. Sunday November 7th, LondesboroUnited Church congregation will join Auburn congregation for service at 11:15 a.m. Silver Tops welcome Blyth seniors Auburn Silver Tops entertained Blyth Senior Citizens on Wednes­ day afternoon October 21. After a dessert luncheon at 1 p.m. euchre and scrabble were played. There were several draws made and prizes given out. John Hessel- wood on behalf of the Blyth Seniors thanked Auburn for an enjoyable afternoon and Kay Lapp replied. The next dinner and meeting of the Auburn Silver Tops will be the third Wednesday in November which will be the 18th.
