The day is jointly sponsored by the Ontario Public School Tachers’ Federation - Huron (OPSTF), the Huron Women Teachers’ Associa tion (HWTA), the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA). The day will begin with coffee and juice at the Blyth Community Centre, where Bill Andrews, a professor of science at the Univer sity of Toronto, will set the theme with a keynote address. Teachers have the option of choosing one of two full-day tours, or of selecting two half-day options from a wide variety of topics. The first day-long option, called Project Wild, is sponsored by the MNR and will give participants experience in outdoor games and exercises designed to increase the awareness of the natural world. Project Wild will take place at the Hullett Conservation Area, while the second day-long option will provide a bus tour of Maitland, Ausable and Bayfield River water shed sites, during which partici pants will have the opportunity to visit several farms practising conservation techniques, as well as to see a harbour erosion control project on Lake Huron. Teachers choosing any of the shorter options may select from a list of 16 topics which include tours of the Wawanosh Nature Centre, the Hullett marsh, the Bannock burn Wildlife Area near Yarna, the MNR Fisheries Management site at Port Albert and local woodlots and fencerows, or they may choose to take part in several seminars to be offered at Blyth Public School. All participantswill return to the Blyth Community Centre for lunch, and will again return there at the end of the day to hear a summary of the day’s events by Tom Purdy, director of Pond Mills Outdoor Education School at Lon don. This is the first time that outdoor education has been offered to Huron County teachers on such a large scale, and will involve all the professional staff from both ele mentary and secondary school panels.
