Brussels reported on budget The new Bac-Pac accounting system installed by the village of Brussels enabled Hugh Hanly, clerk-treasurer to present a finan cial report to village council at its October meeting last Tuesday and the word is good on the village’s financial position. “Financially, I think the village is in a really good position,” Mr. Hanly reported. Mr. Hanly report ed that using the new system, plus access to a computer, he would be able to report to council at the end of each month in the future. Once the form is set up on the computer it won’t take much time to change the figures each month, he said. Councillor Ruth Sauve, a former acting clerk-treasurer herself, commended Mr. Hanly and assis tant Donna White on the job they had done. Council also learned that taxes are coming in very well. Tax arrearsleadingtoapossible tax sale for taxes owing back to 1984 are only $1,200 and the arrears for 1985 are very low. Councillor Sauve said the tax situation had never been that good before. Mr. Hanly reported that much of the change was due to the large number of properties chang ing hands in the village and the fact that taxes must be paid up before a property can be sold. Also, he said, the county of Huron had been doing a good job of collecting on back taxes. Knox United Church Thank- offering will be held on Wednes day, October 28 at 8 p.m. at the Church.
