VIC JAMIESON BELGRAVE AND BRUSSELS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES It is sad but true that most people credit themselves or other people for what they have accomplished in life. Most of us come through difficult times. Later when we Anglican church wants religious school course The head of the Anglican Church in Ontario has sent a letter to all school boards in the province, pressing for a pilot project to test its suggestion of an interfaith curricu- lum to be taught in all public schools. The Most Reverend John C. Bothwell, Archbishop of Niagara, says that the church feels that such a curriculum “is a logical next step now that increased funding for separate schools has been approv ed by the Supreme Court of Canada." Stating that since the Anglican Church, along with its ecumenical partners, feels that the quality of acquire higher education, a good job, status in our community and/or financial assets, we be come proud about what we have. We have real difficulty humbling ourselves before God to thank him as the true source of all life’s blessings, and hardships. In Deuteronomy 8: 17-18, Moses public education and the place of religion in public schools still remainas important issues, the Most Reverend Mr. Bothwell suggestslhatthe religious curricu lum be taught by professionally trained teachers at various levels in public schools. ‘‘We believe that such a pro gram would help all students toward an increased understand ing and respect for all faiths, and prevent further fragmentation of public education," the chief pastor of the Anglican Church says. The Huron County Board of Education has referred the letter back to its education committee for further study. warns the Israelites who were about to enter the Promised Land after 40 years in wilderness: “You must never think that you have made yourselves wealthy by your own power and strength. Remem ber that it is the Lord your God who gives you the power to become rich." Hardships unfortunately do not necessarily humble some of us to thank God for all things. In spite of 40 years of God’s sending hard ships to test their dependence on Him, Moses needed to remind the Israelites to obey the Lord, as their God. We need to ask ourselves today: Have we become too proud of what we mistakenly have accomplished and/or acquired, to humble our selves before God and give him thanks for everything? What most of us do in life says: Yes! This is reflected in little Bible study, prayer or witness to the fact that Professional Photography in the Blyth-Brusselsarea •Weddings ’Portraits •Family Gatherings Walden Photo 523-9212 Westfield, 5 mi. It is sad to point out that our public education system, origin ally founded on Christian - Judeo principles, now is largely humanis tic, a belief that man can proudly provide for all his own needs apart from humbly acknowledging God. Even sadder still is the fact that many who profess to be Christians belong to community organiza tions that either believe in other gods or build up people’s pride by their accomplishments. ALL VISITORS WELCOME How can we get ourselves straightened out? God, through his Holy Spirit is continually wooing everyone to recognize Him as the creator, sustainer and redeemer of our lives through His Son. If we sincerely confess that we are separated from Him, and ask Jesus to be Lord, the one for whom we live, He will be our Saviourwho will help us to give thanks to God always. Unless we do this, we face possible destruction by God’s anger like other people in the past who could only thank themselves or other human beings for the provisions of life.
