Eighty-two thousand, six hun­ dred and ten pounds of the choicest baby beef in two counties was sold Monday at Brussels Stockyards duringtheannual Huron-Bruce 4-H Calf Thanksgiving Sale, bring­ ing a grand total of $94,894.90 into the hands of 4-H Beef Calf Club members. The average price for the 71 animals sold was $1.15 per pound, up from an average of $1.06 in Farm Darlene Black of Belgrave won the Reserve Championship in her division at the annual Huron-Bruce Thanksgiving 4-H Beef Calf Club Show and Sale at Brussels Stockyards on Monday. She later sold the 1,190 lb. steer for $1.20/lb. to Larry Robinson Trucking of Belgrave. 1986. A total weight of $21,910 in heifers went for $24,554.65, or an average of $1.12/lb.; while a total weight of 60,700 pounds of choice steer beef soldfor$70,340.25, or an average of $1.16/lb. Buyers from all over south­ western Ontarioand from as far away as Toronto and Medicine Hat, Alberta, flocked to the sales arena to pay tribute to 4-H members, to watch the show of cattle which began at 10:30 a.m., and to bid on the animals when the show started just after 1 p.m. The ribbon for the Overall Grand Champion went to Kim Weber of RR 3, Mildmay, who later sold her 1,100 lb. steer to top bidder, Formosa Mutual Insurance of Formosa for the grand total of $2,200, or an even $2/lb. Another young lady from Bruce County, Mandy Farrell of RR 2, Ripley, won the Reserve Grand Championship with a 1,270 lb. steer, which was purchased by Van Ankum Simmentals at $1,42/lb. Miss Weber placed first in the Steers, Light Division and Miss Farrell placed first in the Heavy Division; while Dean Ribey of RR 4, Paisley, captured the Steers, Medium Division award. Jon Ellerington of RR 3, Exeter was first in the Light Heifer Division, and Brian Mulvey of RR 1, Clifford, placed first in the Heavy Heifer Heavy Division. The only prize ribbons to come to North Huron Clubs were won by two Belgrave-area members, both of whom took the reserve in their respective divisions of the show. Darlene Black of Belgrave later sold her 1,190 lb. steer to Larry Robinson Trucking of Belgrave for $1.20/lb.; while Mark Coultes of RR 5, Brussels sold his 1,150 lb. steer to Show Judge Jim Coultes (a distant relation) for $1.30/lb. Darlene and Mark are both members of the Lucknow 4-H Beef Calf Club. Other local Calf Club members taking part in the show and sale were as follows: Lucknow 4-H Beef Calf Club - Renay Taylor, RR 2, Auburn, 1,220 lbs., $1.15; Vanessa Alton, Lucknow, 1,260, $1.11; Cathy Dow, RR 3, Wingham, 1,200, $1.IQ; Brad Shiell, RR3, Wingham, 1,340, $1.17; and Hea- therShiell, RR3, Wingham, 1,220, $1.35. Membersofthe Brussels 4-H HFA acclaims Klopp again Paul Klopp, RR 3, Zurich, was acclaimed for a second term as president of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture when the group held its annual banquet at Hensall Friday night. Also nominated were James Armstrong of Stanley township and Chris Palmer of East Wawa- nosh but both withdrew. Lucknow Calf Club members Debbie Rintoul of RR 2, Lucknow and Dianne Black of Belgrave qualified for the Toronto trip earlier this month, as did Brussels Calf Club member Mike Salter of RR 1, Listowel.
