Blyth Bantam
girls win title
The Blyth Bantam girls fought
their way up from the bottom to win
the “B” division of Tri-county
playoffs.
The girls had a rather weak
season with five wins and 11 losses.
But the playoffs brought out the
true ball talents of the team.
The first round saw two close
games against Brussels. In the first
game in Brussels on Sept. 4
Jennifer Allan had a triple, Krista
Lawrie had a double, Shanna Lee
Ten Hag and Darlene Buffinga had
a home run each to help boost the
girls to a 21-18 win. The girls
squeezed through with a 12-11 win
in the second game. Brussels had
defeated Blyth both games of the
regular season.
The second round proved to be
the toughest one, with Blyth
comingupagainst Winthrop. In
the first game Blyth went down to a
26-1 defeat. Striking out 12 times
and walking five, the girls totally
shut out until the fifth inning.
Winthrop then came back to
Blyth with Blyth coming out on top
with a 14-12 win. Then on Sept. 22
Blyth went back to Winthrop for a
final and deciding game. This
proved to be a real nail biter. It was
9- 9atthebottomof the fifth and
10- 10atthe bottom of the sixth.
Still remaining 10-10 at the bottom
