New No more grants for Grey school's portable rentals Huron County school trustees have been told that the Ministry of Education will not continue to pay an annual rental fee of $4,200 for a portable classroom in use at Grey Central Public School, and if the classroom space is still needed for the 1988-89 school year, other arrangements will have to be made. A letter from the ministry’s regional office in London to Huron’s director of education, Bob Allen, says that the leasing of portable classrooms is meant only as a short-term solution to accom modation needs, and as the Grey Central unit has been leased since 1981, a more permanent solution must be found. But Glenn Lamb, the board’s supervisor of financial services, says that under capital expenditure guidelines, the purchase of the unit would cost the local board upwards of $10,000 depending on the value assigned to the unit. Grey Central currently has two portable classrooms in use housing a total of 52 children. However, a spokesman for the school said that the one used for the Grade 2-3 class had been purchased some years back, while the Grade 4 classroom is still being rented.
