Brussels promotion dinner planned Nov. 18 The Brussels, Morris and Grey Industrial Committee will unveil its promotional video on the three municipalities at a dinner at the BMG Community Centre Nov. 18 (notNov. 17 as indicated in The Citizen last week). Tim Roberts of the Economic Development Commission of Ridgetown will be guest speaker. He’ll talk about the importance of everyone in the community help ing to promote the community. Leona Armstrong, Reeve of Grey Township and member of the committee, said committee mem bers are hoping a good turnout from the community will take part. Those interested in taking part in preparations for the Sept. 1988 Brussels council hires Hugh Nichol For the first time in several weeks the Brussels PUC and public works staff is fully manned after Brussels council and PUC in joint session hired Hugh Nichol to fill a vacancy on the staff. There had been a complete turnover in the two-person PUC- Public Works staff after both foreman David Hastings and John Pipe had resigned. Earlier Don Crawford had been hired to fill one post but another candidate from the same pool had turned down the second position and the village had made a new advertisement for applications. That method of advertising threatened some heated moments at the council meeting Oct. 6. Reeve Gordon Workman said he had told village staff to leave a decision on placing advertise ments seeking the second position until after he had returned from a trip to Toronto. He said he had been against offering the second man on the list the second empty position in the first place. Donna White, assistant clerk treasurer, said both she and Cierk- treasurer Hugh Hanly had mis understood the Reeve’s directions if that was the case. They said they had talked to the Reeve again on the Monday after he had returned from Toronto and understood they were to place the advertisements. She said they felt it was the fairest way of filling the vacancy. Councillor Malcolm Jacobs end ed any potential conflict by saying the job had been advertised, the applications had been received and they might as well get on with it. The applications were opened and the councillors and PUC member Henry Exel quickly agreed that Mr. Nichol was their choice and he was offered the Opportunity Tour preparations are also welcome to volunteer at that time. The tour will bring interested overseas investors to Huron county as well as Middlesex, Perth, Grey and Bruce county. The province will organize the tour and Huron County will pay the costs while the group is in Huron (likely for two days). It is up to local municipali ties that want to take part to assemble information about local business opportunities and infor mation on community support services, etc. Reeve Armstrong said if the community is to take part in the tour, which she called “Too good an opportunity to pass up”, it will Continued on page 40 Showing their enthusiasm for the new instrumental music classes soon to begin at Brussels Public School, the teaching staff undertook the purchase of the program’s first instrument, a clarient.
