Phone 887-9487 Inspiring service marks Knox Church anniversary Commemorative plate given Inspiring sacred music present­ ed by Mrs. George Procter and Miss Sheila Anderson, pianist, welcomed members of Knox Unit­ ed, Calvin-Brick and visitors from other churches as they filed into Knox United Church Sunday morning for its anniversary service Sunday. September 27. The Sanctuary was tastefully decorated with arrangements of chrysanthemums, roses and a variety of other flowers supple­ mented by greenery. Mrs. George Procter chose piano accompaniment for the choir as they rendered two anthems, “Laudamus Te", and “if you love me." Following the Sentences, Sanc- tus and Prayer of Invocation by Rev. John G. Roberts officiated for the marriage ceremony of David Gerald Pletch and Melanie Rose Scott at Knox United Church, Belgrave on August 29, 1987. The groom is the son of Sam and Thelma Pletch of Belgrave and the bride is the daughter of Murrav and Wilma Scott of RR 1, Belgrave. Maid of honour was Meribeth Scott, sister of the bride, RR 1, Belgrave, the bridesmaids were Andrea Coultes, Kitchener; Mrs. Betty Gregg, Cargill; and Mrs. Erin Coreno, Wiarton. Groomsman was David Smith of Brussels. Ushers were Ron Mc­ Dowell, Auburn; Steven Nixon, Belgrave; and Kevin Pletch, Bel­ grave. Following the ceremony a recep­ tion was held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre in Brussels. Following a wedding trip to the Maritime provinces and New England States, the couple took up resi­ dence in Oshawa. Jesus on the road to Emmaus and their recognition of Him as He broke bread, was given by Rev. Hope Jackson. The offcratory plates were pass­ ed by the ushers Kenneth Procter. John R. Taylor, Donald G. Procter and Ross Higgins. Rev. Roberts extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker. Rev. Hope Jackson of Massey whose husband, the late Rev. Arthur Jackson was minister in this charge prior to 1966. It was during the couple's sojourn in Belgrave that Mrs. Jackson was ordained into the ministry. She is now retired. She was much impressed with the progress of the charge in both Sunday School and church work. Hall which opened with the Mary Stewart Collect and God Save the Queen. Mrs. Isabel Campbell presided overthe business. Thank you notes were acknowledged from the McGowan Nursing Home and the Grade 8 graduating class of East Wawanosh Public School. It was announced that the North Huron Regional will be held on Monday, October5 at Londesboro, also the Huron County Library Boardwillbe holdingan “Open House” on Saturday, October 24 from 2 to 5 p. m. for the new library facilities at the W.I. Hall in Belgrave. A puppet show will be presented at 2:30 p.m. for the children of the community. The Belgrave Kinsmen are celebrating their 10th Anniversary People Visiting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procterfor a few days this past week were Marjorie Procter and Mr. Phillip Stopforth of London. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes of Sault Ste. Marie attended the Plowing Match at Meaford this past week and before returning home they visited with their cousins in the Wingham and Belgrave area. Mrs. Dorothy Coultes gave an overview of the 90th Annual Convention of the Federated Wo­ men's Institute at North Bay. She gave an interesting account of the workshop she attended and Mrs. Mary Hunter elaborated on one of the workshops she enjoyed “Life Begins at 40’’. On behalf of Miss Lillian Potter, Mrs. Sarg Anderson presented the W.I. with a lovely plate com­ memorating the beginning of the first Women’s Institute in Stoney Creek where Miss Potter’s mother had been a life member. Skit given for UCW The General meeting of Knox United Church Women, Belgrave was held September 24 in the Sunday School room of the church. The meeting began with an inspirational worship conducted by Mrs. Laura Johnston and Mrs. Leslie Vincent. Mrs. Harold Vincent thanked all the ladies who donated their time helping with the catering in the pastfew months and also those who helped with the cleaning of the church. A bale of clothing will be collected at Ross Anderson’s store and is to be picked up by the Good Will truck. In spite of a rainy day. 40 people enjoyed a bus trip to the Kitchener Stockyards; St. Jacobs and Elora on Thursday, September 17 and Mrs. Hunter gave a video presen­ tation of the outing. To round out a most interesting evening, Mrs. Janisa Coultes drew the lucky tickets on the quilt which had been presented by the Bel­ grave Quilters. Debbie Rintoul of RR 2, Lucknow was the winner and the proceeds for the tickets which had been sold amounted to $999. A remembrance of involvement of women in the church over the years. The United Church Women’s organization was formed at the 19th General Council on January 1, 1962 to replace the two organiza­ tions being the Women’s Associa­ tion and the Women's Missionary Society.
