The Jack Arthur trophy for the best-restored gas tractor, prior to 1931, went to Larry Partridge of Monk ton. and was presented by Mr. Arthur, a St. Agatha hobbiest serving his first term as a director to the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association. The second new trophy, for the best restored gas tractor, 1931- 1950, was presented by its donor, long-time HPTHA director John Ellacott of London, to Wayne McBride of Kippen. Other trophies and awards will be presented at the annual Asso ciation Banquet and Dance, com ing at the Blyth Memorial Hall on October 16. Mrs. Hallahan said that partici- ation in both the Old Tyme Fiddle Contest on Saturday and the Step-dancing competition on Sun day was excellent, and that all contestants showed outstanding talent. The list of prize winners in both competitions is still being compiled and will be listed in The Citizen next week. With the show getting bigger and more successful each year, Mrs. Hallahan says that the committee members are finding themselves more hard pressed for time to accomplish everything, and says that the Association desper ately needs more help both on the executive and committee levels in order to keep it one of the best steam shows in the province. Patricia Rozema is the writer, director and producer of Mermaids, which stars Stratford resident and Festival Company member Sheila McCarthy. “Mermaids” is one of the most successful Canadian films of re cent years, having been celebrated by being selected for the Director’s Fortnight at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival, and was the subsequent winner of the Prix de le Jeunesse at Cannes. Since that success “Mer maids” has been selected for Film Festivals in London and Berlin, and highlighted the Opening Gala at the 1987 Toronto Festival of Festivalson September 11.
